Was it a 'German design' or is that a reference to it being a DTM car?
 
It's part of Fiat Group and at the time Chrysler was a large influence on Fiat. Chrysler despite popular belief was a German company being an off shoot of Daimler-Benz, hence Daimler Chysler.
