Hmmm, my guess would have to be:

The tortoise: Mini Marcos GT '70
The hare: Ford GT40

In the 1966 Le Mans race, the GT40 had it's first victory, while the Mini Marcos placed last, completing the race in 13th position... (according to the car description).

Guys, I think you're interpreting the hint wrong. The slower car (tortoise) HAS to win an event where the quickest car in the line up (the hare) loses/is expected to win.

Hmm.. Maybe the Audi R8 (Team Oreca) '05 vs. the Pescarolo Judd Hybride '05? Despite the R8 having proven itself by then, it was getting old, and the Pescarolo was expected to win (though we all know it didn't quite get to it). Or maybe the Bentley Speed 8?

Peugeot 908 HDI FAP, The 908 was expecting to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans but due to engine trouble, thats where they lost. Also might be Jaguar XJR-9 LM because during the Dream Car Championship, this car is also expecting to win but losing to the player.
