Here's a hint, and it's just something to help. I still don't know what it is, but I'm on to something:

It also has that flying buttress look, like on the Ferrari 599.
 
bullet-proof has it: it is the audi quattro spyder. it could well be seen as the grandfather of the r8 and maybe of the tt too. great concept isn't it?

but how did you, minicooper, guess about the colour inversion? was it the black background that gave it away? very good!

The shape you see is more or less and exagerrated outline of it's real shape.

It's round-ish.

I would say it looks like the VW Beetle as well. But it's the roundest car ever, so I doubt it would be if you say it's exaggerated...

Edit: MAYBE a 350Z... but the front end looks too short.
