You said that it's a re-badged version of a Japanese car. Last time I checked there was no other company than Lotus affiliated with Proton.
 
I suppose Proton just stole a Mitsubishi Lancer and then plastered "Proton" all over it. ;)
 
I thought it was a Lancer to start with, so I just googled "re-badged Mitsubishi Lancer". :sly:

No. This generation of the car was made from 1997–2003, and it was sold under a different name from 2004/2005.
 
Ford Mondeo/Fusion? Dodge Neon? if you can only guess once my first preference is the Neon.

Looks like a Ferrari 246GT(S) "Dino" but a little wrong...but just in case, that's my first guess =P
