No, but it's recommended. If it exists on Wikipedia, it's easy to tell if it is a production car or not, and is also easy for guessers to find while looking for it. If it isn't on Wikipedia but is clearly a production car, no sweat, it's perfectly legal :).
 
Ok, and I'm pretty sure it's a production car because the manufacturer has made other cars as well, and for more than 1 year.

And I've just found it on Wikipedia :lol:

Nope, this was a production car. Took me by surprise when I saw who made it, just discovered it the other day. European, but I guess it looks obviously European :)
