If the Mega CD controller was anything like the Mega Drive II's that probably only means about five minutes... Those D-pads were horrible!

I had a third party controller were you could attach a small joystick to the d-pad.
But normally it would indeed take just five minutes as you attached the Mega cd to the Mega Drive and thus used the Mega Drive controllers.
