edit: It's the Atlas MB-326K Impala. It was built under license from Aermacchi.

Bleh, so confusing. All of these licenses and renames.

Spot on. 👍 Your turn then...

Don't rush into this one.

prototype northrop YF-17 cobra, which evolved into the F/A18

god damn! I'll choose something harder next time. Your turn Viper GTS-R.

you guys are good so this is pobably easy

sorry for the size of the pic

Su-47 Berkut (S-37A)

I've been playing too much AC04. That design looks bad ass.

Yes, I can say that the last one was the su-37a...

but what about this one, you shouldn't need a hint, but here it is anyway...

fastest plane ever. flatout.
Mach 6.7 on October 3, 1967. It also set an altitude record of 354,200 feet (67 miles) on August 22, 1963.

Only due to a techincality is the sr-71 the fastest in the world.

Frankly with a crowd like this, no hints should be needed.

X-15.

The X-15 isn't an 'airplane'. It's a rocket (with a man inside).

Hopefully, this one will be more challenging. Extra credit if you can give me the nickname for this aircraft as well. :)

Personally, I dis-agree, but hey, we can all do that right?

but yeah, the X-15.

Glad to see you weren't an idiot... I mean, how many other planes out there can hit 6.7 mach?

btw, the only reason it is not the fastest plane is because it does not take off on it's own, as it was dropped from a b-52 during testing.
However, I think it is just as much a plane as any other... It does fly does it not? And it has steering as well as a man inside, right?

So yes it was a rocket to those who didn't like the idea of such a raw plane, but to me, it was a plane... just like an osterige is a bird. :odd:

Doesnt that mean Saturn V was the fastest "plane" then?

Personally, I feel that unless it is take-off and land by itself, it is not a plane.

chance vought SB2U "Vindicator"

the US marine corps also liked to call it "Wind Indicator" or "Vibrator"

Yeah, your turn again.

BTW, the nickname was 'Vibrator' because the engine vibrated the whole fuselage.

Let's try some general aviation.
