I just bought my first car: A 2003 Chevy Impala. My neighbors just bought a new car, and just wanted to get rid of their old one. So I snatched it up for a cool US $3,000. Of course, I had to take some pictures! Here they are:

Just thought I'd share it with everyone. :)

I know it's not a Six-Fo', but that doesn't mean you shouldn't put Daytons and hydraulics on it. It is still an Impala, after all.

Well, I don't quite have that kind of money. And I still have to get it licensed and registered. Plus, I don't see the need for Daytons and hydraulics when all I'm doing is driving to school and back. :boggled:

Nice, congrats! There's always something special about your first car. Looks like you already washed (and maybe waxed) it, too.

Sure, now you're just driving to school and back, but the nights are getting warm, and you have a car. Pretty soon, any excuse will do, even its hot and there's nothing like cooling off by cruising with the windows down. At least it was that way for me.

When you lift one of your wheels up off the ground, all the fly honeys in the area lift their skirts. I'm pretty sure this is a law of physics.

Please. No. Only adjustable suspension any car should have is coilovers with six-way adjustable shocks.

I suggest the blower off a 3800 Supercharged, and maybe some Grand Prix handling stuff too, if any mods are in the future. Some cop-car steelies w/ trim rings would be pretty good looking, though...

No, I shot the pictures after a rainstorm. But yeah, a first car is special

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.

Nice, I really like that gen of Impalas.👍

Thanks, me too.

So what engine and driven wheels are these?

Is it a 3800 Series II under the hood?

It's either a 3400 or 3800 (3.4, 3.8) V6 FWD.
If it's the 3800, it's got more than enough get-up, with a rating of 200HP and 225ft-lb torque.
The 3.4 would be 180HP - 205ft-lbs - still quite decent, just doesn't have quite the thrust of the 3800.

It'd be a whole heap more awesome-er-like if it was RWD. But a nice cruiser never the less.👍

Congrats man. Nice buy for the money. But the car itself it's just meh. Hehe

That car is in need of some tint, like really really really in need of tint. Even though it's illegal in Michigan as long as you don't go crazy on the front windows cops won't mess with you.

And that black ding guard plastic all around the mid section of the car needs to go too.

For whatever reason I've always like the 8th gen Impala's, I mean they are pretty average cars in every respect but I've just always liked the design for some odd reason.

Nice first car 👍

But is there anything you can do about those rear lights?

They have a plastic piece that can be painted to make them look like they are part of the body:

I'd go with putting Nightshade on them.

That looks considerably better. I get the impression the design convesation went.

"Kids today like skylines right?"
"Yeah, round rear-lights!"
"Huge round rear-lights"
"Massive round-rear lights!

It was designed by guys at GM, they probably did it on a coffee break. I don't even know if people at GM would know what a Skyline was. Remember this is AMURICA!

The didn't copy the Skyline.

The round tail lights have long been an Impala design trait. Although they did switch to square lights in the 70's and 80's.

It's a 3.4.

Once I get a jot and make some money, then I might look into changing the appearance. But for now, I'll keep it how it is.

Oh yes that'd look a hell of a lot better.

Edit: That'd be a really nice sedan if it was RWD.

3.4 and 3800s both have the same issue with the intake gaskets. 3100s too.
Say what? :scared: The owner of a so-far-trouble-free 3800 asks.
No, but seriously, what? I haven't heard of such a problem on the 3800's, I have heard of head gaskets on both the 3.1 and 3.4, but I recall hearing that was due to different types of metal in the block and head. Not sure what either would be made of just know the 3800 is iron and iron. Not bad for a Buick with a curb weight of "only" 3439lbs.
