Steve Vai's best song performed live for the very first time. You can tell he was nervous.

You can see an equally young and nervous Satch play a few songs (a very early Satch Boogie comes to mind) at that same gig! I have a whole extended video of it in better quality!

Wasn't Brian May genuinely blown away by Vai though? ("THE AMAZING... STEVE VAI EVERYBODY!!!")
He was a bit freaked out Vai was so good, especially as it was the first time For The Love of God was played...

Yeah, thats part of the video I posted. That's a Satriani song, correct?
Really? If so, I'd love to find out which so I can find the tab. The riffage is awesome in that song and I wouldn't mind uh... borrowing it. :p

 I just now noticed that the "karate kid" wasn't using a pick!
Actually he's not using a pick because his character is a classic guitar student.

Because he falls in love with the blues. You should watch the movie, it's not so bad.

My god, that was stupid. Pot does wonder, eh? The whole crowd was apes***t.
I thought the bit at the start was pretty cool... the rest of it got boring though. But later Zeppelin shows (1979 Knebworth to be precise) had a really cool Pink Floyd-esque laser show to accompany the solo and it looks amazing.

He used to have a quad-neck guitar. I think it broke in half and he's now using it in the video.

He's really boring though.

EDIT: The quad was stolen, and only two of the four pieces were recovered. Thanks Wikipedia!

Lol. I still like Jimmy Page, but I just thought that solo was boring.

Anyway, I think what I like about Laiho is that he has a very baroque sound. Vai and the others are way too mushy for me. I'm not trying to discredit anybody or anything, by the way, because they're all fab guitarists.

Gotta love that guitar line in Bad Horsie. That slide work just sounds fantanstic. I'd have been more impressed with the tapping if it actually worked with the song, but all in all very nice. Vai is obviously extremely talented, and totally out of his mind.

He manages not to go over the deep end like the guys from bodom or Dream theater. At least Dream Theater has a singer, Bodom has technical talent on the guitar, but no imagination, and no singer.

Vai, Satch, and the less technical but more emotional Vaughn are greats. As for the other guys, I'd say music doesn't have to be technical to be good, and not all technical music is good.

I just can't get into music with lots and lots of arpegios and scales and no heart.

Edit: Oh and the Jimmy Page thing is lame. Doesn't sound very good at all.

Here's Frampton - not the best version of the song, but all I could find.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlTIWWsicAE&search=frampton do you feel

I have a better, more awesome LIVE version of Bad Horsie if anybody wants it. I've had it for a long while, now. I'll have to send it via MSN since I know of no other way (yousendit wont work).

You could try to upload it to Google video, www.youtube.com or www.putfile.com SL.
I hate registering for places like that. It's a great way for them to send you junk mail.

I'll give it a shot with a phony email address and see if that works. Nope, they don't.

Anybody have a youtube account and have any junk email problems? Right now, I have no junk mail sent to me, and that's the way I like it.

I tried to post it at Google Video a while ago, and they wont take it. Wrong format. It's a ASX. file and they don't like those, for some reason.

Do you know how to change the format to MPEG, or whatever?

just to make sure, I uploaded this to Google to see if I did it correctly... http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8508185167641016978
So, I did things correctly and tried to upload the Bad Horsie clip again, and it still wont work.

I have a youtube account. Aside from a confirmation email, they haven't sent me a thing.

That's nuts!

Looks like he has a lightsaber when he starts waving the guitar around!

Told ya'. Gotta love those LED fret dot markers. I want some of those. Actually, I always thought of doing something like that. I always thought of putting little lasers at the end of my strings and have them light up my strings. However, Steve put them on his fingers. I also imagined putting them at the end of the strings at the headstock so they could bounce around and shoot all over the place. :D

I would've had LED frets, actually. That video was kind of boring though. Cool, but boring, ultimately.

A few weeks ago, I played an AWESOME guitar that had LED lights on the fretboard. That was actually the best guitar I had ever played. Steve Vai does have them on one of his guitars in G3 2005.
