I love everything about them and thought it was about time FP had its own guitar thread.

I've only been playing again for a few years (after never really trying as a kid) and am well and truly hooked.

So to open things up I'm going to put up some pictures of one of my collection to start.

1980 Westbury Deluxe

This is a 1980 Westbury Deluxe in antique walnut finish, handmade in Japan, the company no longer exist (were part of Univox), but the Westbury models have always been well rated and tend not to come up for sale often. It plays wonderfully and has a stunning tonal range. The neck pickup is a DiMArzio Super Distortion and the bridge a DiMArzio Dual Sound (effectively a Super Distortion with coil tap).

Its a great blues and rock guitar and also the first electric of my re-found playing, given to my by a good friend, who it turn had it given to him. It sat in his spare room until he gave it to me after an Alabama 3 gig. It did at that time look a little bit rougher.

Now its been given a new lease of life and I think is looking a lot better for it.

That is one sexy guitar. I dont play guitar but looking at these photos makes me want to go out and buy another Bass. I havnt played in a good 5 years, but was playing for a solid 5 years before that.

What i really need to do is learn how to read music though haha, it would help me so much.

Got a few myself, I'll update this post with pics when I get a chance.

That is a Classic Guitar.. My first electric was a Westbury the lower spec model (flat top, no coil tap) :( and I wont be parted from it:tup:

it's got a versatile tonal range (tbh it's a bit flat compared to the strat!) and I love the neck on it..

Also got a 40th anniversary strat.. from the 1954-1994 set ..

I went in to buy a Blue strat :)

They lined up about 20 of them.. and I played them all bar one which I didn't like the look off.. it must have called out to me.. I somehow thought even though that's not the best looking guitar I should give it a go since I'm here.. it was the most comfortable guitar I tried, like it was made for me.

And I still get a rush when I hear the sound it produces.. it sings to me!! I just had to have it.. then I saw it was a limited edition $$$ fortunately I'd just picked up a bonus at the time.. you know how these things work out :)

after the wife and family.. this is next on the list for rescuing in a fire! (she's next to me just now ;) - ouch!!)

Then theirs the Gibson les Paul deluxe with a stunning maple flame top, I fancied a les Paul and this was the one I bought for it's looks... :dunce: this is one seriously heavy Axe!

also got a Variax line6 modeling guitar.. useful but needs a better guitar as a base.. will be a transplant when i get more time.

Also got a fender precision and Jazz Bass

Maton Tommy Emmanuel TE2 Electric acoustic (another keeper. love these guitars)

Couple of Takamine acoustics

a Taylor acoustic

a Jim Dunlop Acoustic, it must be about 35 years old now and plays better now than it did back then.. I wish the same could be said for me ;)

probably forgotten a few more.. :ill:

They turn up in various locations from time to time :D

Ive had a few starter basses, but i dont remember the names but when i finally had enough money to buy myself a bass i got an Ibanez Artcore semi-hollow body.

a.provider,m.291905,mod.media,down.true,th.normal,s.pictures.jpg

This is not my picture but its the version i had.

Ive always wanted(and still do till this day) A Rickenbacker 4003, and a kinda second place to that i want an all white Flying V with gold insets and hardware haha.

I've always been a Les Paul man myself. I have a '77 Les Paul Standard which is by far my favorite guitar to play, she has such a smooth neck, sustain for miles and is very pretty to look at to boot. Luckily it was bought brand new by my father and he gave it to me about 15 years ago so it hasn't been used by anyone other than my father and I.

I also hold a special place in my heart for Telecasters. I've a Wine Red one myself but I find myself playing my '69 series Thinline more than my standard.

I've been eyeing the Gibson '59 Les Paul reissue but I have a hard time justifying the price when I could buy another Cummins for what the guitar goes for and I don't really have enough time to play as much as I'd like now anyways so it'd probably be a waste on my part. Decisions, decisions...

I picked up the guitar about 15 years ago and played for about 10 years. I never got as good as I wanted and the frustration grew and slowly quit playing till I stopped. I had a few guitars over the years but now I have none as I sold them all when I was broke at certain points in my life and needed cash.

My first guitar was given to me by my uncle who got it as a child. I would say the guitar was made in the early 50's but never found too much info on it. It was a hollow body National New Yorker acoustic/ electric. Once I had some money I bought a Fender acoustic and it had a sort of maple starburst top. Beautiful looking but at $200 new, it didn't sound great. A few dead frets here and there. And I bought a Squire Tele and sticker bombed it but I always went back to my Fender.

I don't even think I have any pictures of my guitars any more to share with ya.

I want to pick the guitar up again and do things right. Save money for a nice Strat, an American Standard or if I could find a Billy Corgan version for a reasonable price. And pick up a nice, warm sounding tube amp. But I can't save money as it is so luxuries like that get put off. Maybe by the end of the decade.

Now that I think of it, I do have one guitar laying around, my Guitar Hero guitar for PS3. The Strat shaped one.

Those things are damn durable. I smashed one of mine on a guys car that thought he was a tough ass next to my house. It shattered his whole rear hatch window, and was still able to play perfectly the next day haha.

My Ephiphone Les Paul Custom. I've been playing it for about 6 months now.

Been playing for almost 4 years, spent a lot of that time playing different guitars to find "the one".

Started out with a Yamaha Pacifica 012, nothing special entry level, didn't expect it to last long, just help me get started with playing and such. Came with a Yamaha GA15 amp which again, beginner level.

My next guitar in the quest for the sound was a second hand Squier Showmaster, lured by its promise of high gain power, it was nothing but a let down. Might be nice for some but for me, the neck was too small, tuning was a pain and the pickups were very noisy.

I stuck with Squier after trying out a second hand Telecaster Deluxe, I plumped for it. Dual humbuckers, maple neck, lovely heavy body. This was close to the sound I wanted, this guitar is still with me and although it doesn't get used much I still love it.

Next up, I decided with Green Day being an influence I would for a Les Paul Jnr style guitar, found a nice cheap one in the local guitar shop, a Vintage VZ99 in yellow. It was fun to rag around, very light, partially hollow body but it was never going to satisfy, a friend bought it off me after a few months of it sitting unused and unloved.

I stuck with the Les Pauls though, and after some deliberation, 2 weeks ago, I went for a Westfield E4500 custom. Not the worlds greatest Les Paul but certainly gives the Epiphones something to think about. Not only is it beautiful with its white body and gold hardware, it has the much coveted "sound". Although the rythem pickup will be replaced with a Bareknuckle Nailbomb at some point. This is my current guitar and I forsee will be my main axe for a long time to come.

I have always used modelling amps, first off after the GA15 was a Line6 Spider III 15, it was good but I needed more options. I was lured by a Marshall MG15MSII, basically a 5 foot stack with 2x15w cabs and a MG15FX head. Beautiful but far too loud and big for my bedroom, so unfortunatly had to go, a shame as they are rare. I currently use a Peavey Vypyr 15 which gives me enough noise and enough options to be happy. Although now with a move to a new house and a larger area for guitaring available I may lookout for a Marshall MG15MSII again.

I love the Les Paul, magpie. What a beauty. I've been playing guitar for about a year now, and after playing on a Strat rip-off Yamaha, I got a Les Paul and I love it.

I really like mine, though if I were to get a new guitar I think I'd like to try out a different type of guitar to expand my experience. If I were looking for an enjoyable alternate to my Les Paul, what would you suggest?

Difficult to say really. I was looking at SG's just before deciding on a Les Paul, played some real nice ones.

Remarkably similar to another of mine...

A Vintage V100 in Arctic white with gold hardware, which is a lovely bit of kit, but I must confess doesn't gel well with me. So it may have to go in the near future, most likely to be replaced with another Les Paul.

Regarding the Epiphone Les Paul's I've found that they vary wildly depending on exactly what model you get, most of the cheaper ones with bolt-on necks I don't rate, but you get to the higher end set-necks (such as the Customs) and I've played some lovely ones. I bought the Vintage on a bit of whim after a Slash signature Epiphone I was going to buy had been sold, since then I've never been 100% happy with it.

:dunce: My guitar story isn't nearly as exciting. For starters I play a classical guitar, fingerpicking style obviously.
Started 6 years ago with my dads Eko guitar and still playing now with the same Eko guitar.

One of my recent milestones that I've reached is playing 'Spanish Romance'. Still one or two mistakes, but it's listenable.

Looking at the pictures of those electric guitars makes me want one though. If only for the way they look.

Nice thread,

I started to play guitar when I was 15 yrs old, and I am still playing it in my band.
I started with acustic guitar, when upgraded to my first ever electric guitar, second hand Jolana (Fender Mustang shaped). It costed 180 DEM (Deuche Mark) with was pretty expensive for that time (my parents average salary was 150 DEM - it was war here in Croatia). This guitar was 1/3rd silenced compared to other electric guitars, but it was mine. At that time my dream guitar was Ibanez JEM7VWH, but that was to expensive. So after I saved some money (worked during summer), and didn't go on excursion trip with my class, in order to get enough money, I bought my self Ibanez RG430 (which I still have). This was an almost dream come true, and this was before I finish collage. After I started to work I bought myself my dream guitar Ibanez JEM7VWH, also used. It costed 2500 DEM, new was around 5000 DEM. After using it for a few years, and also saving money and eventually selling it, I decided to go for the ultimate guitar (life time guitar). I order myself Suhr custom made, by my specification. This is my last guitar due to having kid and wife, but bo does this guitar sound brilliant. The sustain, the colour of the tone, how it feels.... It's just brilliant. Price was 3000€, ordered from USA.

Don't mind the sheets LOL

My pops is an excellent guitar player. Plays bass and six-string. You know when guys play and don't even look like they're putting any effort in it? Like that. I on the other hand have ZERO patience for it. Tried when I was a kid, when I got in my teens, in my 20's and even 30's and could never find the patience to learn. If someone wants a free guitar it's best to be my friend now because I'll probably do as I've done in my 20's and 30's. By a pretty decent "axe" (hehe , guitar lingo , even though where I'm from you'll never hear anyone say that) at around 300 bucks, a decent amp , try for about 6 months on and off , let it sit for a year and a half and wind up giving it away.

I know he has about 2 or 3 guitars. All I know is one is an old ass Fender bass guitar from the 80's or possibly 70's. I'll say 70's because I remember as a kid him making a cover for his amp out of some fake leather and we as kids playing with the scraps. lol. Reason I recall that because a friend of mine , long story, came into the bar one day wearing a suit made of the same crap. I spotted it the minute he walked through the door and couldn't believe he would pay money for that garbage.

mom has an all original '71 fender american standard stratocaster. if i bought my own, i think i'd save up and get one of those VG Strats. those things are pretty cool all the stuff you can do. I still say Gibsons are better, but they cost more.

Been playing since I was about 13, 14 I think. Always been fond of Ibanez JEM guitars. Used to have a big collection but thinned right down now. Anyways, here is the only Ibanez I own. Bit different to your average guitar ;) It's called the Ibanez JEM DNA, it contains actual blood of Steve Vai in the paint work! It's number 205 out of 300 :)

New amp has been ordered and is on its way.

VHT Special 6 head and cab (1x12). Single end class A, all valve kicking out 6watts its effectively a version of the original Fender Champ.

Went for it mainly because its so damn old-school in terms of design (not a PCB in sight) and sound, should be here next week and I can't wait.

Some very nice guitars guys! I have an acoustic and an electric one too, and I can't play either. I wish I could. I can play some very basic stuff but nothing properly. Maybe one day I will try to learn this skill too... :)

Yes, guitars. I had a guitar once... I tried learning guitar once... I gave up half a year later... Then again I was an 11 year old... WOAH!! That was about five years ago! Anyway, I'm actually starting to get into guitar again. I've established my vocal ability around the school, now I need to show I play other instruments too. I can't carry a keyboard or a drum kit around, but you can take a guitar... So I'm getting to it a little more, I have a mass vocabulary of five chords. Simple chords, G, E, A, D, C.

And since I write my own music I can write stuff to push my (limited) ability so I can get better. And then record with real guitars instead of computers attempting to sound like a guitar and failing.

Am I the only one who plays acoustic :D

I much prefer acoustic to electric honestly.

One thing about acoustics over electric is you learn to be more accurate. They emphasize mistakes more.

Yes and no. It is possible to 'hide' mistakes with a bit of OD and gain on an electric, but a clean played electric (think Jazz or Country) can be just as unforgiving as an Acoustic.

Yes and no...lol....frett buzz is a little less detectable on an electric...with OD
you can really make it sound like you meant to play that...
