Ken Block isn't a very good driver, he's just good at marketing.

It's always wise to put disclaimers like "relatively speaking" and "compared to other top rally drivers" when you say things like that. The lady who lives next to me "isn't a very good driver", Ken Block, as evidenced by those videos, is certainly a good driver.

This comes from someone who despises all the flat-brimmed hat, monster sponsored new generation of racing.

Ken Block is an amazing driver...there is no doubt about that(not a huge fan). I cheer for him bc he is one of the only Americans in WRC. I give him props for that crash in Portugal a few weeks ago. They said he was pulling 16gs in those barrel rolls. I would like to see these lazy boy drivers try it.

Looking for decent WRC Impreza 2008 gymkhana tune. I cant seem to get 1st gear to transfer the weight for 2nd gear around cones. help wanted

if i knew how to get the videos off my ps3 i would post them. its alot of sliding through cones. get sidewayz and spin around them

Unfortunately, there's very little in terms of actual "Gymkhana" discussion in the drift forums. Most people just want to drift.

Gymkhana would be a fantastic addition to the series. And not just the freeform stuff Ken does, but timed competitive events like this:

Gymkhana isn't simply powersliding a car... it's technical driving at it's finest. Much like a good dance routine isn't only about how high you can kick or how many backflips you can do, Gymkhana isn't just about the most lurid powerslides. It's all about total control.

Would be great if we could set up a custom gymkhana or autocross course with cones and checkpoints in the Track Creator. It's fun to pretend on the Top Gear track, but weaving and sliding around cones in a line isn't quite as much fun as doing a full, gated course.

thanks a lot, i have been reading this site since gt4, but never posted. I just wish that PD would have added more to the top gear test track. at least let you custom set your cones.i mean they are there anyway, but i love this game. Finding new ways to have fun for my $60.

I will post some of my tunes for rally cars if anyone is interested.

THanks for the links. That Ford Focus vid is pretty good. Especially the cone driving in the middle. Not a cone touched. Geez I could barely gold the Elise challenge there :(

I love the first links video...such great driving. I have a few videos of me doing the same thing through the cones and around the follow through tire set up(TG reference). Best thing for that is to slam 2nd gear to get your wide angle. Then shift to 3rd gear for those sharp angles(then 2nd to power out of it).

Of course I use the Evolution Rally Car '99

Please tell me you at least respect it.

Of course, I respect any form of driving, I am saying I don't like it as in I don't follow it, and I'm not really bothered about it. Good skill though.

I love those Block's gymkhana videos. The 2.0 is the best one I think. I missed some of the slowmos in the 3rd one. It'd look great for example in that last scene where he burns off his tyres!
It's crazy to imagine that he had this awesome Fiesta built just for the video shoot!
I'm also kind of disappointed about that he can't get some good results in WRC. I guess it's because he can't afford any mistake in WRC, that's not like gymkhana. I wish him good luck though!👍

I have found that you can easily do gymkhana, but it takes time and practice. just lower your gear ratios and practice your shifts, so you can keep the wheels spinning. Just wish we had a dedicated course for it :(

As far as I know autox and gymkhana have very little to do with each other, unless we've been doing it wrong.

Autox events are little time-trial type deals where you will most certainly lose terribly (and likely be asked to leave) if you drive anything like Ken Block does in that video.

Well by observing the track and how its developed to me gymkana looks like a crossbred of drifting and grip(ie curcit racing at some point Ken slides his car into tight corners and then at other parts he corners like he's on a tight time attack course. So to me it looks like its half autocross/curcit and drifting IMO mostly.

Btw is gymkhana Japanese orgins or what cause to me it sounds like a japanese sport to me, can someone help me here with that?

I'm a total dork when it comes to my Subbie 22B and turning all four tires red at the Top Gear test track.

Screaming down a straight, tap the e-brake while turning and punch it.

Gotta love it!

An actual Gymkhana (as opposed to Ken Block's videos) is a timed event, much like a standard autocross. Only it involves elements intended to test car control.

Elements like 360 or 720 degree turns around cones... reversing through gates... or even parking turns such as those popularized by the likes of Russ Swift and Ace Ventura.

But again... a Gymkhana is a race. A timed event. Unlike sports drifting, the object of Gymkhana is not style, but precision and speed... though drift elements are certainly part of Gymkhana.

Many of our local autocrosses (the ones I grew up with) include a lot of gymkhana-style elements in order to make for a better viewing spectacle for audiences. Before I saw US autocrosses in videos, I'd always thought that the 720 degree donut turn was standard on all autocrosses.

Thanks 4 the info. Cause when I heard about Gymkhana, the name almost sounded Japanese and/or oringinated there. But now I understand. :D

I was really disappointed to see gt5 didn't have autocross... it shouldn't be hard to implement and would add a ton of replayability to the game. Anyone who's done the the autocross events in Live For Speed or real life knows what i'm doing about. Custom autocross tracks would be a very nice addition to gt5.
