So lately I have been losing quite a bit of hair, specifically in the shower and when I comb it afterwords. My father is not bald (in his 50's) but his father is, and I'm afraid the gene got passed on to me. :nervous: I'm 28 and fear I may go bald in due time, as I can see it thinning out rather quickly. Either that or life is really getting to me with the stress because I've already got too much gray hair for my age, and now this.

Anyone here dealing with the same scenario?

When I was ~28 I noticed my hair thinning at the top. I vowed that when I turned 30 I would buzz my hair to stubble... and it was the best thing I ever did.

Embrace it early, don't comb-over, don't walk around with patchy hair, just cut it off*.

* If you have an extremely oddly shaped head, this may not work out well for you.

Welcome to the club, bud. My dad:

So yeah, I've been screwed since forever. People say Finasteride works for this, but it's like 70 bucks over here. It has to be cheaper over there, but it's not cheap at all.

Also, don't comb. Yes your hair will be messy, but will be there.

I too, suffer from early grey hair and baldness. But I don't care about it, since I look like a 12 year old when I grow my hair, so I just shave it all off, and with the pending baldness, there is less hair to get rid of.

I will say that I have seen people who cut their hair off early in the bald stage try to go back a few years later and it is painfully obvious that cutting the hair off is the right thing to do. Bald spots age you about 10 years it seems.

Cano's dad needs to cut his off too, his problem is the hair that's still growing.

I heard that trait comes from the mothers side of the family. I could be wrong though.

Grandfather on her side isn't bald though.

I would go really short, but I'm not sure if I'll like it. May not have a choice though. :(

Interesting, maybe there isn't any truth to it. I was always told that, since no one on my moms side is bald that I know of. My dad is though.

My dad's dad was bald, not my mom's. I am. Was thinning at 19......

Brother is bald, too, but he started later for some reason.

I am balding. My dad is bald. My dad's dad was bald. My dad's dad's dad was bald.

My mom's dad was not bald.

Bald is sexy.

Enjoy it.

There's also the issue of how you treated your hair/scalp all these years, so it may not be completely genetic.

This one dude who always comes in to buy 6 cans of energy drinks is bald in the center. It's painfully obvious because he gels - not combs - the front hair all the way to the back. There's so much gel it's like a reflector on his head, and it's not a hairstyle that's in or anything - his hair is ALWAYS like that.
:yuck:

It will be a good 20-25 years before the baldness starts in my hair if I inherited my father's hair loss genes. If I inherited the baldness genes from my mother's side then that means I could start loosing hair a few years quicker. I know I will enjoy what hair I have now and in the future.

Usually I cut it fairly short so I can just get up and not have to mess with it. It's longer right now as I haven't had the time to get it cut, will be doing that this weekend. So right now I just comb it after a shower and again in the morning to make it not so messy. Takes me like 10 seconds.

However, I do wear a hat. Not sure if baldness by hats is a myth or actually true, but I can't stand how I look without it. And I feel naked. :p

I once knew a guy who was fully grey in his 20's. At least bald you can pass it off as a style or something.

I have a small bit (Like a centimeter square) of my head which is bald and I really don't know why. The rest of my hair grows fine.

Hats and caps are also bad for you.

That's a myth. The usual culprits of premature hair loss are stress, poor diet, and genetics. The first two can be fixed and often recovered from, and a healthy lifestyle can substantially slow the third.

Oh I know it's not the main culprit, but not using anything over your head helps.

Well I have plenty of stress, not the best diet but it's not entirely junk (I weigh 127lbs) and the whole genetics thing is still up in the air.

I started losing my hair when I was 18, I have been slowly losing my hairline since. I'm now 29 and not far from the Captain Picard look if I let it grow out. I've been keeping it as short as possible since I started losing it.
I can't wait for my mid life crisis when I buy a two seater convertible, and some hair.

You should go full Gallagher. 💡

I have the exact opposite "problem". My hair is too thick, to he point I'd actually like if it were a bit thinner.

Then there's my back. I'm told by my wife that I'm a few hairs away from being a Wookie. Not sure if that means she's into that or not...

I'm getting there. My hairline has receded quite a bit the last 7 or so years. I'm now 27 and I still have some ways to go before I get completely bald.

At least I've gotten to keep my hair longer than my dad and grandad.

Many of you've seen my picture, I've got pretty thin hair and a fairly high hairline. I'll shave my head eventually, but for right now I just keep my hair short.

My cousin went completely bald. My hairline started to retreat a year or two ago. It certainly has thinned out, but I keep it in check with Nioxin. Luckily that's worked well enough to save more of what I have. I don't think I'll ever use minoxidil or the other drugs. When I first started Nioxin, I noticed a lot of the little hairs coming back where my hairline used to be. It wasn't spectacular, but it filled in a lot of the thinning. Looks good as long as I keep it short.

I was paranoid that I was going bald when I was 18. The amount of hair that would gather in the shower drain was unbelievable. I did have a fairly stressful job back then too. Now I'm 26 and I still have a healthy head full of hair. A friend of mine who is the same age has been going bald for years. He's taking it quite badly and trying to hide it, but it's painfully obvious.

Another friend of mine started going bald in his early twenties. He starting shaving his head as soon as he noticed. Now he's 32 and if you look carefully, you can see where the bald spots are on his head but as he shaves his head regularly, it's not really a big deal for him. It actually suits him quite well. If I start receding, I'll just shave it all off. It's the best thing you can do.

That's breakdancing for you.

I started to notice my forehead taking on some extra real estate when I was in my late 20s, so naturally there was a touch of panic. Fact is, my hair has thinned very slowly over the years in a steady and progressive manner. At nearly 45 my hair is still just about passable but I have to keep it reasonable short and spiky (not cropped) otherwise it is more noticeable.

I reckon I have another 5 to 10 years or so before making that drastic statement at the barbers of "No.1 all over", which is fine by me.

For the record, my dad was thinning but not bald when he passed on at 75, his father was like a billiard ball and his father was... a Victorian, so probably wore some kind of hat. All the men on my mother's side had thick hair, but they were Welsh so it probably covered their entire bodies like Captain Caveman.

Yep. My dad is balding, my brother (who is 4 years older then me) has a lot of face to wash and it seems like it's my lot in life too, bit by bit.

At the moment I just try keep it short and neat, as when it grows out it looks stupid. I've resolved that there is a point of no return where it will get shaved, but it's still a little way off, which is good. I am not sure I have the cajones to shave it all off just yet and need some time to pluck up the courage.
