I did a search and I think it showed a thread which was two years old, so I'll make a new one.

Who plays Halo for PC here, and how do you like it?

I play quite frequently and I think it's a really good game; however my GPU is so crap it won't support the game - it's an Intel 82845G GPU. It won't show shadows, lightings, and decals - which means no shiny surface, no water on some maps, and no blood whatsoever. I would give anything for a better graphic card.

My Halo pc story.

Installed game.
Did 2 levels.
Add/Remove Programs.
Uninstall.

Halo is a subpar game when compared to computer FPS games. It's the best console fps however and so get's all the casual gamer attention.

Also, everything set on high, 1280 x 1024 reso and it's still looking like balls.

I did the same thing, I bought it cheap, installe it player for about an hour then uninstalled it. It doesn't look good, play well or have interesting enough levels cimpared to all the other PC fps games I have.

Yep, on the Xbox it was kind of ground-breaking when it first came out, but now it just looks awful compared to games like Half-life 2, Far Cry etc.

Have it, don't play it much because this game hates nVidia cards. And it's not that special at all.

Yep I was the same except my friend got it and I watched two levels and that erased any thoughts of borrowing it.

No, Macs never count.

(jk. don't kill me)

Anyways, I have it, played it maybe twice (only works on my parent's computer :( )Whilst it kept my attention for a little while, I always found myself playing some Half Life 2 on my Xbox (don't have it for the PC :indiff: Still pretty damn good on the Xbox.)But I agree, Half Life 2, and Far Cry are far superior FPS experiences.

The funny part? The better of the two versions is the PC version, due to better controls and (free) online play.

I don't even think that it was a ground-breaking game when it came out. It was just an overplayed one.

True, I was always hearing how awesome it was and how it was the best FPS ever, but when I played it on my friends Xbox I wasn't exactly blown away.

I liked it much better on PC because of the controls. I beat it on PC and I'm playing through Halo2 on my X360 right now.

I like it it better than on Xbox, but i really dont play lots of shooting games and sorry, what does fps mean? anyways i kinda of just stumbled with the wrong download and ended up with halo, i really enjoy the sound effects with 5.1 dolby. Play it twice a week.

fideles1986
and sorry, what does fps mean?
Two different meanings:

First Person Shoter - the best FPS ever.
Frames Per Second - the FPS in this game is great!

Played.. beat it.. played on the internet listening to little kids yell about OMG I HAVE 0 PING unistalled it, gave it to a friend.

Well I think I've beat it 5 times already...but I don't get tired of it, even though my graphic sucks. Playing Custom Edition right now instead of the standard and it's a lot better.

I've played CE... I've player counter-strike... CS wins for me.

I never saw the beauty behind Halo or Halo 2. They were nothing but mediocore FPS' and I found more enjoyment in Half-Life 2 and FarCry. Hell, I thought Prey was a bit better (wait, what am I saying? I hated Prey).

The Online for both sucked, when playing a friend's copy. The only thing I liked is Halo 1's story, but even now, it's a lacker. It's just a run-and-gunner game.

It's mediocore. It brings nothing new to the table and I don't see why it was so hyped. Killing aliens had been done before.

Maybe the storyline was new, but everyone likes to say it sucked on different boards. It's just not an exciting game as people make it to be.

I hate it because well i have a few reasons..

1. Everyone uses rockets... banshees...tanks...and snipers... thats it..

2. Singleplayer is boring to me.. Nothing new... I like Half-life cause it was original. And it's basically the granddaddy of online shooters. And don't say it's not. 70% of people playing online games at this moment, are playing some version of Half-Life. It has soooo many mods, actually there are more mods for this game then anyother game out there. Thanks for Valve making it really easy for modders to make there things and transport data to the new engine. So for all the famous mods that were out there for the 1.5, 1.6 etc.. made it easy to make a new one for the Source engine, with out having to start from scratch. And 10,000+ CS Source servers all payed for? WOW! Server companys make seriousm money off of CS. Any just remember, more people are on 1.6, then CSS!

I'm sorry, Halo really does not stand out to what it's saposed to be. The game is fun, but not as much fun as the ones that started the genre.

So the opinioin seems to be splitting...

Why do you find it bad?

Yea, you vs everyone else

It's repetitive. Run. Shoot. Duck. Shoot. Run. Generic monsters with generic guns with generic environment.

At least Half life 2 had a physics system you could mess with.
FEAR had the awesome atmosphere.
Heck, Doom had awesome level designs.

Halo was just too generic.

But you can say that with most of the shooter games - shoot, run. Shoot, run.

I don't know how to say it but, I appreciate the environment and gameplay in Halo - which is the totally the opposite of everyone else here.

Yeah i've been in those ME Vs. 10 people before based on what i belive and think. It's like religion, you belive god is real, but you can't face the real facts. Like I don't belive a Viper can beat a Civic. Cause I belive the Civic can win :D

But the thing is, we are not trying to put the game down or anything. We just don't really like it. Trust me, Halo is better at being genaric, then alot of other games!

But for me, Half-Life 1/2/Ep1 are not just about physics, I LOVE THE STORY. It is sooooooo detailed, the characters are real.

I love other shooters also, FEAR for me was just a break. FEAR took a genaric shooter, and made it a game you HAVE TO BUY! The game play is quite new also. Thats why most shooters fail.

But you guys are missing a very under rated shooter.
Serious Sam... THE GAME OWNS!
It puts humer, and lots of ownage together. I love it. I mean.. YOU CAN PLAY BASKET BALL WITH A TV IN SERIOUS SAM 2! How many shooters have that? How many shooters have headless guys with bombs in there hands and are screaming? NONE! How many games have random things apear through out the whole game... and does nothing but make you laugh? NONE! How many games have NOTHING but humer in there dialoge..? NONE! Serious Sam fit's all those fields. They game is humer+big ass guns+lots of funny ****=FUNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have it, I completed it, I have never played it again.

Boring, boring, boring.

The laser sword tingymagig was cool but the game as a whole was just mediocre, nothing really bad but no real reason to keep playing. When compared to HL2 (and the rather pretty episode 1) the game just falls flat on its face, not unlike Will Rock.

I love Serious Sam II, brilliant game.

I understand that you're not trying to put the game down. I don't have any problems with individual's opinions.

It may be a wise idea to wait until Halo 2 for PC comes out - there are lots of better weaponary in that game. Like the Energy Sword, Battle Rifle and stuff.

I think Halo was a little too generic, having only a few covenant weapons.
