AC Schnitzer gives BMW 1 Series diesel the police package treatment

It's nothing new to see high performance vehicles like Porsche 911s being used for autobahn pursuit in Germany. The gang at AC Schnitzer have just unwrapped (or perhaps wrapped is the better term given the side graphics) a new police car concept based on the 123d. As one of Autoblog's resident diesel fans, the 123d has long been one of this blogger's favorites. The compact package combined with the tasty twin turbo 2.0-liter four cylinder diesel putting out 204 hp scores mid-6 second 0-60 times with 40 mpg efficiency.

Schnitzer, since it is their job, couldn't leave well enough alone and has boosted the engine further to 241 hp and 354 pound-feet. They've also applied an array of their special visual bits including a front splitter, rear spoiler, bigger wheels and Hankook tires. The body has been dropped 30 mm which should help compensate a bit for the extra drag of the light bar on the roof. Inside, racing seats and carbon fiber trim are accompanied by a new cover for the iDrive knob that matches the design of the wheels.

We'll pass on the light bar and the graphics but would be happy to take the rest of the car, thank you.

I suddenly want to be German. And a Policeman.

Meh...Won't be bad for tracking guys down on the 'bahn, but I never really saw the utility in urban or rural situations with high-performance Police Cars.

things you need

1. A tough, reliable car.
2. A radio.
3. many other officers with tough, reliable cars and radios.

I suppose if it's used as a 'bahn-stormer or out in the countryside then it'll be in it's element. I'm sure the car is more than up to the task, though you couldn't use one with wheels like that in the UK as police officers everywhere would lose their teeth on pot-holed British roads...

Maybe, though I was thinking more along the lines of...

EDIT: Tree'd, in response to Evo comment. Agree on the "Wheels" note, though. That's what tipped me off most that it's not really great for all police situations.

241 Diesel hp wil have trouble chasing anybody on the Autobahn though...

And maybe a helicopter?

LOL !! 👍

seriously, you guys have no tastes... either that, or i am bias...

and well, ultimately, beauty is in the eye(s) of the beholder ...

since i cannot convince you otherwise, so i have no choice but to accept your opinions, while wishing that you see how pretty the 1 is...

The 1-Series is beautiful to me. It's unique and, it drives good too ;)

Anyway, I knew that Police 1er already through BMWBLOG.com and I like it seriously!! In Malaysia, we used an EVO 10 for the Highway cruiser and guess what, by looking at the spec, it can't even chase down a BMW 525i!!! Because it happened once :D

How is that possible that anybody can call a bmw ugly?

Because I'm not a badge snob.

The only BMW's I don't think are terribly ugly are the 3 series or 5 series.. Everything else I think is horrible.

I find that hard to believe...

I never doubted you about its existence... We have SRT-8 Chargers here running all over... But I was doubting that it got out ran by a slower car...

Police discretion, perhaps. Slowing down to avoid a high speed chase getting dangerous...

I don't get the "ugly" comments either. I think the car looks "amazing".

Having said that, I couldn't stop laughing at the Cracker's post.👍 How did you do that!?

Depends. 241 bhp in a car with that small a frontal area should give a theoretical max of about 150 mph. Good enough to chase most anything. (and not every German car is a hulking V8 or a Porsche) Anything faster still won't be faster than a radio.

But I was doubting that it got out ran by a slower car...

I know it was weird. The EVO has got at least 320BHP while the 525i has got 214BHP. Still, the EVO has got the same top speed as the 525i limited to 250KM/H. But who knows ;)

Maybe you get Japanese market EVOs with a 180 km/h limiter?

:odd: ....it's just a screen grab.

;)

Is the 1-Series sold in the US?

They get the slightly less ugly Coupe and Coupe Cabriolet versions only. I don't think even BMW had the guts to sell ugly on the level of the hatchback in the US.

The cabriolet version is the ugliest of the lot. It's like a bathtub with a kidney grill.

Ahahaha!!

No.. as I told you, the speed was limited to 250KM/H. The interior has been ripped off and looks like a racing car with a machine gun slot in the boot. Small Police Laptop in the car but anyway, I think this car really is cool but gutted when they somehow can't catch the 525i... Maybe the BMW has got a DINAN Stroker :sly:.. Owh, in fact this car really was from Japan...

Maybe it's actually a Lancer 2.0 modified, coz the goverment can't afford to buy a high-performance car to be made as a highway cruiser. It can only chase my dad's Accord 2.0:rolleyes:.

I disagree. To prove it, see the actual meaning:

(Thanks to my bestfriend for suggesting to 'modify' the meaning)

Now that's what I'm talking about:D.

Fast, efficient police car. I would approve... If they had used a 3-series sedan.

I can't imagine any but the very most cooperative crims riding in the back.

I think the 1-series (at least the coupe) is a very pretty car. Its proportions are excellent and it has a nice aggressive stance. I would have one in a blink of an eye. The hatchback on the other hand IMO looks like it fell out the ugly tree and got hit in the face by every branch on the way down.
