I'm trying to set up a cup leauge for some of my friends and I.
The thing is we're ranging from pros to rank amateurs.

Now I need a workable handicap system that will allow us to keep on an even level of competition even though we're of various levels in driving skills.

Now I do have some ideas how I could make it work but I'd like to have some input on it. Afterall you guys might come up with something I hadn't thought about. :)

Each "season" will probably run for 6-8 races with 10-15 laps per race.

You could base it around classes split by Power-to-Weight ratio. That system worked fairly well at GT3Times for a series.

Remember that in GT3 though it's a weight-to-power ratio (for some reason), so the LOWER the number the better.

This all depends on whether everyone can be trusted.

Option 1

Do a race.

Record all times. Determine the average time.

For the car that cam 1st their handicap for the next race would be 80% of their margin over the average time. (The 80% instead of 100% ensures there is still incentive to win.

For the car that came 2nd their handicap would be 85% of their margin over average time

For the car that came 3rd their handicap would be 90% of their margin.

4th, 5th and 6th get no handicap.

If you are good at a spreasheet program I would record it there. The handicap could be based on the last 2 or 3 races.

Option 2

Determine the cars to be used. Try to make it such that you know the performance between each of the cars.

Give the best car to the worst driver etc

Option 3

Similar to option 2 but have a lottery to determine the car.

Option 4

If you have 10 people then have 10 handicaps. For long races these may as well range from 2- 20 secs. Have a lottery to determine who gets what handicap.

These are not all just to make the driving even but are also for a bit of fun and rivalry.

Thanks for the input guys, I'll take it aboard.

What I'm gunning for is a series of cups each 6-8 races long, 10-15 laps a race built around a theme.

First cup would be an under 1600cc cup.
So basically we wont'to race the same cars. The cups are going to be raced in 2p mode each driver (6 of us) will race the other drivers in turns. Then at the next race the person who one the last race against an iduvidual will get a handicap.

i.e. Driver a, b, c.
A wins from B, A loses to C, C wins from B.

Next race;
A has a handicap racing against B, C has a handicap Racing against A & B. B has no handicap.

Let's say A wins to B again, A wins from C, C wins loses to B.
Then next race A would get a higher handicap against B, C would lose the handicap against A & B. B would still have no handicap.
Etc.

We'd like to have the handicap beeeing based such that we still have a dissision on the track not afterwards with time penalties.
Since we're racing with tyre damage i'm thinking an extra pitstop (one is allready mandatory) as a second penalty. For a fisrt penalty I'm thinking of the option to change the starting distance between the cars.

So I'm basically looking for a system like in some reallife series where they add weight to winning cars.

An other option would be to not allow certain tuning options to cars that win. (i.e. Changing Muffler from race to normal)
