Let's just celebrate for GM, and remember the good years.

I did feel bad that I had to stay in Grand Rapids all day, I had originally planned on going out to Detroit for some of the festivities. I'd love to get a close-up look at the Volt, the new Cruze, and obviously the Camaro.

My family has been strongly in favor of GM since the late 1950's and early 1960's (depends on which of the brothers you talk to), but since then, my direct lineage has always had at least one GM product in the driveway. Although my Grandfather had a storied history with Plymouth and Chrysler up until 1962, his purchase of a Chevrolet Impala pushed he and my Grandmother into a new world, and consequently it rubbed off on my father... And now me. Although most of what I've been around have been Chevrolets (particularly Caprice/Impalas, Camaros, pickups and SUVs), we've had Oldsmobiles (Cutlasses and Toronados), Pontiacs (Catalinas, Bonnevilles), Buicks (GS/Regals), and a light dusting of GMCs (pickups and SUVs)... A world without GM would be a sad place indeed.

Although I'm far more accepting of other brands than I used to be, GM continues to hold a special place in my heart. In our post-2003 world, we've seen GM change dramatically, and truth be told, mostly for the good. Cars like the Volt and the Camaro give us hope that GM can and will do the right thing, and as we constantly see the new models come out, it seems as though they are on the right track to see another 100 years ahead of them.

A buddy of mine just got a Cobalt SS TC and he loves it. I'm a bit concerned with the "no lift shifts" though, is it really ok to do that to the transmission over and over again?

I would say no since I don't want to risk breaking anything. I always lift off the gas as I hit the clutch

That's what it's designed for I suppose. The new Civic Si's engine holds the revs up for nearly a second after you let off the gas, though not at full throttle. It works out to a flaccid sort of power shift. I think it's idiotic. I like mechanical things, not electronic things.

Thats a definite no, unless of course you don't care about your gearbox at all...or your clutch for that matter lol! Or you have modified your Car to be able to withstand a certain amount of the pressures of the 'No lift shift', helping the stressed components to last longer. However 'Flat shifting' does sound really sweeet!!:D

The car IS already modified to take the beating, and was extensively tested at Nurburgring, holding the fastest production FF lap record. The clutch will probably take the most beating.

I would only worry about it if I "no-lift shift" all day every day and every time I shift. Given that I won't be doing that execept may be 2~3 DE/year at the track (probably less starting next year, since I will be doing some SB races), I would not worry about it.

The car also came with launch control. So will I be doing "launch control" starts every stop light? I doubt it, LOL. The fact that it came with such a features doesn't mean I MUST use it, just like the stability control.

I believe GM engineers figured out a way in which to control the throttle in a way that is not damaging to the clutch or transmission. I'm trying to find a good tech-related article on it, however, I have been unlucky thus far...

Thing I found most-interesting on the new Cobalt SS?

The optional LCD performance monitor. Its effing awesome!

...But, uh...

Something that has been swept under the rug during today's 100th Birthday event:

The Chevrolet Orlando Concept

This, I believe, is the new crossover/MPV that was contracted out a year or so ago that will be based on the Delta II chassis (same as the Cruze and Volt). It looks nice, certainly has a production-ready interior, so I'm interested to see what it looks like in the flesh. A Mazda5 fighter appears to be in the cards...

THAT'S SUPER WICKED COOL!!!!!! If GM keeps making models like this in the future I'll definitly respect them more.

Happy birthday GM *happy tears*.

I still remember our old Kingswood, when I was young it was the coolest car on the road through my young eyes.
