My hard drive (Maxtor OEM) has been making loud ticking noises and as it makes the noises everything freezes. Just yesterday all my sound drivers (cd rom, sound card etc.) were corrupted. I can't use my Cd-rom drive and also my Roger's Yahoo internet browser, Roger's Self Healing and MSN messenger don't work. It has to be the hard drive. Is it fixable? How should i save info without being able to burn it to a CD?. Thanks in advance.

I'm unfortunately not exelent with hard drives, but it doesn't sound good!
Anyway, is there anyway of using a usb device? As that is all i can think of.
How old is your hard disk, is it new or old, and how much data have you stored on it?

Its OEM and i got the computer in august of 2003. It can store up to 60 gb. I am going to use my usb to try to save some important info.

Seems to be a common problem with Maxtors ...

I just replaced my Maxtor with a Samsung because of its poor reliability ...
