Welcome to the latest revision of GTPlanet, a completely new look and feel that I like to call "GTP9". GTP9 is the result of hundreds of hours of work, beginning with primitive prototypes that I began tinkering with nearly two years ago. While the forums have primarily undergone a cosmetic update, the rest of the site has seen many changes. Here is a quick, although not comprehensive, list of major changes:
  • The GTPlanet.net homepage is powered by new, powerful blogging software, and blogging is exactly the direction that I intend to take it. There is no single, authoritative blog that covers the Gran Turismo series, and we are already in the perfect position to fill that niche. I intend to keep it updated at least every other day, so please be sure to check it often and participate in the article comments. I also encourage you to subscribe to our new RSS News Feed that will continually be updated with the latest content from the blog.
  • I am also launching GranTurismoTV.com, which you can access anywhere on the site by clicking on the "TV" button in the header. I will be posting all new GT5 and GT5 Prologue videos to GranTurismoTV.com instead of hosting the clunky WMV-HD files in our old gallery. The site is also running on Brightcove's powerful internet TV delivery service, which means that you guys will also be able to quickly and easily upload your own videos. Just click on the "upload" link at the site, follow the instructions, and as soon as I approve your video it will show up. I hope that with your help, we will be able to collect a large collection of some of the best clips from the GT series throughout the years, all in one place.
  • The GTPlanet Guides also got a makeover, and a change in the way the Guides accounts are structured. Anyone can now register and create an account when they want, and you should find the new templates virtually identical to Wikipedia. With the new simplified and more functional layout, I also intend to take a personal effort to clean up our Guides pages as I believe it has the potential to be a much greater resource than it already is.
That's most of the big changes to the site, and now I would like to discuss the forums a bit more. You have no doubt immediately noticed the new right-hand column that appears on most of the pages. If you are not a Premium user, you will see some ads in this location. Otherwise, I encourage you to click on the "Skin" selector and select the "Default (Full)" style. This will extend the main content all the way across the page and should be much more comfortable. Of course, this Full style is only usable by Premium users, so if you are not one but want to upgrade your account, you can do so here in just a few minutes.

With all of that said, there are sure to be many small bugs and inconsistencies in a site redesign of this scale. Please report anything you believe may be out of place! I would also like to extend a huge thanks to Sage, who helped me clean up and simplify the tricky code that makes our new black-and-blue "header buttons" work. He saved me countless hours of frustration, and I really appreciate his help. Thanks again, Sage! After spending so much time in development, I do hope that you like the new style as much as I do and I look forward to (most of ;)) your comments.

Ahhh!
I just refreshed... and...
It looks great!

I'm going to go take a more thorough look around, now.

Edit...

A few critiques:
1) Move the Quicksearch and Skin Chooser (on the right side of the screen, where non-premos presumably have ads) elsewhere - This would free up alot more space on the side and allow for a larger text box (For us premos, anyway).

2) Make the username/usertitle/location/online status centered, slightly larger, and bolded.

3) I also changed the coloring of the buttons at the top, just to see what it would look like.

Edit #2 - Nevermind point #1. I'm an asshat and should read full posts first.

Edit #3 - Someone pointed out that our shiney Premium badges are gone. 👎

It's cool looking, but wow this will take a while to get used to.

Looks great, in the few moments between logging out and then in I see this beautiful new setup. Really a great new setup and should be really easy to use.

Thanks for putting in so much time into the new version GTP! I am sure everyone is going to love and appreciate it.

MORE ads? And a requirement to pay to remove ads put in a crappy location that greatly restricts the width of the forum, especially for those of us on lower resolutions, and slows my ability to browse this website because most of the ads have to be animated?

This is, quite frankly, unacceptable. I think I'm going to have to evaluate my participation on this website.

Hmm, where has the planet symbol gone too? I miss that. I also miss the premium badges.

Jordan, where’s the New Posts button? I’m lost, I have no idea where to get my content from! Arggghhh!

EDIT: Oh, that’s hidden under Quick Links. Happy bunny now. :)

Also, I was going to complain bitterly about the white gap down the right hand side of the page, but the Default (Full) style fixes that. Thanking you.

Nice job there Jordan!

Looks really nice!

Neil

I'm not sure I like the GTP's slow but steady move towards being a pay-site.

I completely understand, Jordan, that you have to cover all of the bandwidth costs of the site. I also understand that you put a lot of time and effort into maintaining the site, and I definately appreciate your efforts. I click your ads even if I don't care about them, because I know that provides revenue. Can't most of the site's features and your effort be compensated simply with ads?

Besides this, I really do like the new redesign. It looks very clean!

A "pay-site" would definitely be suicide, and that's never something that I plan on implementing. Membership and the ability to post will always be free, but I want to provide additional perks to users who want to support the site directly. Hiding ads for those users is just one of those perks.

Quick question... Is the "New Posts" button going to return? because that is like the only way I see new posts.
As Blake pointed out, "New Posts" is now found found under "Quick Links". :)

My god, i click on "quote" to rip someones blatant lie to pieces, and when the reply box comes up, its a whole new GTP!!!

Scared me to death!

Its a bit bright TBH, but im sure it will be an improvement in the long run, Jordan is not known for doing daft things with this homepage of mine.

Just have to get used to finding tabs and such like in different places from now on.

Way to go Jordan 👍

The best thing about GTP9? -You changed your avatar! No more French Rally car!.... oh wait...

:irked:👍

If I can't even change the skin, why do I need a pull down menu for it permanently on the side?

Hmm... It's definitely not me.

Too much like Windows Vista.

Oh, and the pull down for the skins is in case you want to use GTP Lite.

This is, quite frankly, unacceptable brilliant. I think I'm going to have to blag a months trial of Premium to re-evaluate my participation continuation as a freeloader on this website.

phixed.

Freeloader? **** right off. I've been on this website long before this pay system was introduced.

I hear there's no more convo thread in the premo section which was the only reason I used to go premo in the first place...

I guess I can understand ads but what's this...
