Less is more - please leave it as is. :)

Let's not turn the site into something that looks like a Fisher-Price toy.

The359, ROAD_DOGG33J, V1P3R, and others, you should be in the Senior Members usergroup (more than 500 posts and 90 days on the site), which can actually view the Full-screen styles at 100 posts-per-page. Unless I've messed on the permissions somewhere...

More seriously, the database seems to be a bit more laggy to me. When I open a new page the header bar, top-of-page advert, and button bar appear almost instantly. The messages then seem to take forever to appear, sometimes prompting me to refresh. Is this happening to everyone, or is my old 1Ghz win98se machine unable to keep up?

Don't worry, I don't have any plans on changing the color scheme. All of these colors were chosen very carefully and I am happy with the way everything came together.

Your machine should be able to easily keep up. I have my father using a 600 Mhz P3 machine running Ubuntu and the new style is very snappy. What browser and style are you using?

Can you clarify your post? I don't understand what you are trying to show here.
 
Have to agree with Car-less's comment about the page taking longer to load - I'm experiencing the same, and getting a few server timeouts. Could all be on my side though and there are 3x as many users and guests browsing right now than what I usually see.

Good stuff Jordan (and Sage). Bit of a shocker when it loaded up for the first time, but I like what I see so far and am eager to see further developments to this version, such as the TV and blog content mentioned.


oh, one possible bug, not sure if others have experienced it though...might just be my browser/machine. Anyways, with the default skin some threads (ie, the first page of this one) are causing me to have to scroll horizontally to read posts even when there are no large images, etc, that created this effect in GTP8. The full skin resolves the issue, so I'm using that now.

edit: retracted - post #25 and those that quote it cause it (I'm viewing 40 per page), but in the full theme the rest of the posts are not stretched to the same width. 👍

I'm using full, and there's still the side-scroll option. There's one post on page 1 where someone inserted some code as a quote to demonstrate a message they were getting about post count, which causes the side-scroll to kick in. Only seems to affect that one post, though, the others are fit to the page.

Looks pretty nice, Jordan, but I had gotten used to the old color scheme.. hehe. Ah, well.

And thanks for the Full option for us old-timers... I hate empty space on the side of pages. :)

Looking closer, it indeed seems to be my side. Watching the status bar at the bottom of IE6 the browser is loading all these animated ads in the time between loading the top of page and the messages. It does seem to be speeding up as these new ads get into my internet cache though.

Indeed. I've corrected my prior comment. Definitely do prefer the way the full theme handles wide threads - much much easier to scan/read.

Kill the site with options that are un-needed, a new look which wasn't needed, and the important stuff like the search engine still sucks! Try improving the search function first!

You are quite in the minority in your opinions, and I assure you very few will leave the site specifically because of these changes. Suit yourself, but most others like the new version.
 
Great work Jordan, I was really surprised at how different it looks. Looks good though, I think you did a great job on the colour's. Can't of being an easy job.
I'll have to change the background colour of my avatar now. :D

I like it a lot more after I changed the skin to Default (Full)

The cars in the banners look sweet, very professional looking. Especially like the Skyline shot. Like others have said, I miss the Planet. I think it would look a lot better with it back.

I appreciate the work you do for this great community, hope GTP stays strong for many more years. 👍
 
Looks good Jordan, I've been here long enough to really see GTP evolve into something amazing. I've also been premium long enough not to really know the difference since you implemented the ads after I "joined the club" so to say. Nice job, I know this has been a long time in the making.
 
Looks pretty good over all. My only real complaint so far is that style drop down bar, as it makes the right side of my screen kind of vacant.

Otherwise, looks slick.

EDIT: Found that there is a full screen skin. So complaint is gone.

I must retract the above statement, from my previous post. I actually just needed to clean my cache, to kill the slowdowns... Guess I was just jumping to conclusions, seems all better now... I was about to stop coming around, it was taking like 2 min to open in a new tab/ window. The right-click options were taking a full min. to display... But I guess it's not as bad as I previously stated.


I still think that 'New Posts' Link should back where it was before.

That I agree with. I am finding it a bit annoying to have to make two full clicks to see new posts.
 
I like it! A bit bright, but I'll get used to it. GTTV looks very cool, but being a different domain, do premium perks not cross over? Cause ads are there.

I'm confused with the 'new posts' complaints though. It's right there on the top bar...
 
LOL at the premium forum example!! Under paid subscriptions.

edit- there is a typo on the paid subscriptions page, on the bottom it says 'I will be happy help'.
 
After some testing in IE7, I can definitely confirm the slowdown that you guys are seeing, and I am 99% sure that I know what is causing it. This never happened in my own testing because I was primarily using dummy ads. I will replace them all with a considerably lighter AdSense unit while I work this issue out.

GrumpEone, even though you have edited your post, there are still some points in it that I would like to address.

Harder, to navigate - too many useful links are tucked away in animated menus, and the ads (that nobody clicks) get in the way.

Only one link (New Posts) that was not immediately clickable in the old style has been 'tucked away' into an animated menu. As you and other people have pointed it out, I apparently did not realize how much it is used. I will move it around a bit.

Better, hardly - I have seen nothing to make the site better, other than a slick look, mostly it's less usable.

There is a speed issue with Internet Explorer that did not emerge in testing which will be taken care of. Otherwise, it should be as fast or faster, even on slow machines. Speed is something that I put a very high value on when creating a new layout.

Have you tried using our new search feature, powered by Google? It's considerably better than the old search powered by our forum software (which is/was terrible, I agree).

EDIT: another issue, when I quick post, The window closes automatically.

Yep, I can't use the conditional comments that block ads from Premium users with the other types of software that are powering the rest of the site(s).

Too bright, but I guess I need to get used to it.

Looks great; very 'silky' looking. Cleaner looking without all the badges, if you ask me. 👍
