Looking closer, it indeed seems to be my side. Watching the status bar at the bottom of IE6 the browser is loading all these animated ads in the time between loading the top of page and the messages. It does seem to be speeding up as these new ads get into my internet cache though.

IE6?

I like this new 'update', looks good. Though maybe the colours when viewing a page could be a little brighter, slightly different shade maybe. How long have you (and others) been working on this Jordan? Using a test site on it? Looks like a few months work.

I really don't like the look and feel of the new version.

I liked the old school look of the previous version, and the you can find 1000 and 1 sites with a style very similar to this one.

The buttons at the top (new, forum, ... ) should be more embedded into the background.
Now it looks like it's just stuck on top of it.

And for some reason i'm getting a headache reading posts with the current combination of gray shades.

edit:
And is it just me or does all the text when browsing through forums look so small?
QFT

The text seems smaller than usual (or maybe the space just got bigger) but yeah, the big problem is reading the post. Feels hard to read and like you said, gives me a headache. :ouch: Grey on grey just feels totally wrong in a way.....

i dont like it...it is has slowed down my computer dramticly...looks good though like all other sites

I like the new layout, looks more modern and fresh. Looking forward to Gran Turismo TV.

Aw shucks, I didn’t do anything. Jordan deserves 100% of the credit. :)

Time to get workin’ on GTP10. :P

Is your new avatar the GTP9 updated mod-panel?

I would like to file an official complaint. The change in color of the left-most column has rendered dozens of ZunguriF1 avatars useless. :grumpy:

Well, an upgrade.

Lots of moaning Minnies having their say. Well, this is the internet, so it's allowed, I guess.

The text is exactly the same size. The available space to read it in is wider - something done deliberately to try to get a cleaner look - a worthwhile goal. However, on larger resolution monitors, it is more difficult to read the wider column with the (relatively) small text - this is the exact reason why print magazines and newspapers are split into columns. The optimum reading width for fast comprehension would be approximately half the current width (for me on my 1360x1024 screen), or, I could simply Ctrl+ a couple of times and the problem is gone along with the eyestrain. :)

However, my self-imposed problems and reconfigurable gripes aside, I think the site is fine, and I understand the effort that must have gone into the change. Well done.

Personally, I couldn't really give a stuff what it looked like, as long as I can do what I've always done on GTP, viz: read (and write) informative, funny and thought-provoking content about the world of Gran Turismo, communicate Gran Turismo events to fellow racers for social meets, and also discuss the state of the world in general - automotive interests in particular. (Oh, and occasionally browse the fab GT artwork, and Weekly Babe Contest threads. :) )

Keep it up. Whatever it is you do. In the hardened bunker. At night. With Sage. Ooer.

I was actually referring to the forum overview.
On 1024x768 all the text look rather small on a 17" crt.
But now i'm looking at it on a 17" lcd on 1280x1024 and the text looks as big as the previous version.

Does it like auto-scale?

This is taking some getting used to but so far I am liking it better, especially the My GTPlanet since the thread headers aren't huge.

Seeing I didn't see this originally (sorry Daan) and put it in GT4 forum instead, I'll voice what I thought here.

Jumping on here to expect my usual GTP page to pop up, only to come across this new format. Fine, I think to myself....a lot of things have been simplified, tidied up and has a general nice feel to it. I liked it and looked forward to using this new forum layout more.

But then I click to jump forums to GT4 tuning from GT4 normal and then see the GTP page disappear and find a full page ad for WORKOPOLIS stay up for 20 SECONDS?!?! W-T-F!?!? ARE YOU FOR FREAKING REAL?!?! There's enough ad's already showing around the forum between yourselves and google!!

Why would you guys put that monstrosity up in the 1st place is what I want to know!?!?

Nice, Jordan. GTPlanet is looking slicker and the mood matches GT5 fairly well. My only complaint is that I have been pushed back down to 20 posts per page, and that I have to make two more posts to get it back.

Well, this is a peasant surprise!:)

Looks good Jordan! It looks very clean and more "modern."

Appearance-wise, the GTPlanet in the top left looks a little basic, but that's all I've found, and even that is quite minor.

The globe logo needs to come back as 'gtplanet' looks very unbalanced with it all being lower case, but for the overall look I like how GT4's UI has somewhat been an influence on the design. It's very clean, although some areas could use a little more contrast.

Just logged in and read this thread the moment I noticed it looked different.

I like the look. It seems cleaner.

I no longer see a link to galleries, but like I said, I haven't looked around yet.

Great job so far from what I can see.

Jordan please bring back the globe logo! :indiff:

This happened the last time when the globe logo was replaced with a G in a circle and everyone wanted the globe back and you agreed and put it back...

That icon is the trademark of GTP! You have to bring it back! :(

:(

Looking good here Jordan, my only gripe is that the new posts box looks like it's floating around, I don't know much about web coding, but if there's anyway to put a 1px black border around it, I think it would look better.

Having a think about what doesn't look quite right, is it does look a little plain up on the banner now on the top-left corner. Putting that logo back would amend that, me thinks. But if not it's something I'd get used to - it may have been removed to improve the clean look.

I agree. Especially the "Welcome, ______" box. It looks a little like it was just kinda stuck there.

I feel bad for Jordan. He just totally redid the place and we're just sitting here picking it apart.

Yeah but its good to get feedback from all his members who are here a lot of the time. I know personally when you have a design and people moan and criticise its gets a bit annoying but to be honest you need to listen to users and tweak what they suggest if you want successful operation.

Most of the posts in here are creative criticism, it's not like we're telling him "zomg gtp9 is teh meGa suK, DuBya T 3ff J0rDan". I think it would only help the site become better if we tell him what we think in a positive way. :) 👍

Literally I think the minor changes which need to be made are

Bring back the globe logo.

Bring back premium badges.

and maybe add more colour to make it less grey everywhere...

I was also kind of upset about the green threads now being light blue, its harder to see the light red ones...

I've looked around quite a bit and it looks cleaner and seems easier to navigate. I have no complaints only praises.
Nice job Jordan.
Has anyone else tried the RSS news feed link in the first post. It is not loading for me. There may be many reasons for this, but I'm wondering if anyone has had problems.

The359, ROAD_DOGG33J, V1P3R, and others, you should be in the Senior Members usergroup (more than 500 posts and 90 days on the site), which can actually view the Full-screen styles at 100 posts-per-page. Unless I've messed on the permissions somewhere...

Eh, 10 inches? What resolution are you using? The right hand bar is actually only 180 or so pixels wide.

Wow that was close, just yesterday I got to 500 posts!:scared:

Great format, though! I like how you haven't changed the order of the sub-forums in quick select, makes things easier.

Nice going, Jordan!

:-)

Blimey, this threads taken of like a rat with a Starbug up it's jacksie. The sites looking very slick, good work.

I like the user info aligned left, I think the font is too small to be centered. Similarly, having the same stuff aligned left would have looked cluttered on GTP8.
