Harry Potter books are great fun for all ages! I'm SO sick of Christian fundamentalists pushing their beliefs on the rest of the world. Screw John Ashcroft! :irked:

It all started when www.theonion.com reported a sarcastic and purely fun article about Harry Potter. Someone read the article but not the books and concluded that the Harry Potter series were bad and heavily into the dark practices of witchcraft and black magic. Later, the uneducated “The Onion” reader rebuked what he had said earlier about the Harry Potter books, but a lot of influence had already been made. This is the story that I heard anyways that might explain the bad feelings towards the HP series. Quite sad and silly if you ask me…
So you're the one that started that (or at least it was your site that started it). I'm honoured. In the presence of a legend... :D

It's a kids book. But on a level where an adult can get some entertainment out of it. I haven't read any of them but know a couple intelligent adults who have and they liked them. No, it's no Ullyses. It's Harry frickin' Potter. Chill out.

I also know a couple who have forbidden their kids from reading or watching Harry Potter, but seem to think Lord of the Rings is just fine and dandy, which makes no sense to me at all.

Some people are just always on the prowl for something to ban or burn.

It will die off like everything else. But it seems to me that almost every little fad I've been growing up around has been redeemed as "evil." Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers, Pokemon....

me too! ozzy osborn, charles manson...

Hmm, I've just finished reading the 5th book, and was quite shocked at the end. It really asks for a sequal, and when the 6th book comes out it will be huge.

A lot of suspence and a lot of questions answered in this book though...

Well, there are going to be 7 books in total, so it's really not that surprising that the 5th book is leaving loose ends untied.

JK Rowling lives in Edinburgh - it's funny seeing her cross the street whenever she sees an 8 year-old.

I've never really been interested in all this wizardry stuff, hence the reason I don't like Harry Potter. On the last day of school one year, we went to the cinemas and watched Harry Potter. The best part of the movie was when I went to the toilet...

Heh, we saw Harry Potter last year at the cinema as well...we snuck a peek at Die another Day when we "went to the toilet" ;)

I got the fifth book yesterday, I'm about 230 pages into it now, it seems interesting...:)

I'm not religious and I just thought Harry Potter sucks. I saw it in the cinema before I attemepted reading the book and gave up after the thrid chapter. But I might of actually like it if I hand't of seen Lord Of The Rings, which completly blows Harry Potthead away. How is there any comparison!

Something that has been irritating me over time....

What about world hunger? War relief? Mission trips? Spreading the Gospel? Why aren't we putting as much effort into these causes as we are to trample over a simple and wonderful children's book series? We have more effective things to worry about and fix; this isn't helping.
Exactly. :)

Well, Im 43 years and love the books and movies of Harry Potter. Considering that a lot of ppl say its a kids movie, I disagree and say its a movie/ book that the whole family can enjoy and understand.
Religiously speaking, its not that bad unless you are a fundamentalist denomination and yes, they cant tolerate anything pagan or something that involves witchcraft.
Heh, I've even gone so far as to read most of the Animorphs books when they were hot and found them to be very well written and iteresting to read. They were one of the few books that kept up my interest and there arent too many articles that keep up my interest, let alone a novel.
Harry Potter is one of the best written books/ novels I have read next to the Animorphs series. They are a must read for those willing to be involved with the characters and story line.
I love reading and love the books, religion or not, they wont send me to hell for reading the books.

I've only made it to the second chapter of the 5th book. I'd read it more if I didn't have to work. Actually, after this post I'm going to go read somr more. C-ya.

I got addicted, and finished the last 500 or so pages yesterday...:odd:

It's a pretty good book, now I need to read a sequel...;)

I've read them, and I just started the new one. I think they are very well written and interesting stories. Heh, I know a doctor who reads the books. And also, how is the series crap without reading them? It may seem like a fad and just hype, but they really are good stories believe it or not. Look past the hype and actually read one, and you might change your mind.
