I know. They are ammending it for my graduation year! I think I might be able to get away with skipping the new SAT I and taking supplement SAT II's. The colleges might be understanding. I hope.

That is a large amount of money.

And, back on topic, Harry potter is well, rather like

You never know. I could score a 401 and he'd have to pay up. That isn't that much for an oil tycoon.

This is the Harry Potter thread? I thought it was the Josh/bounty hunter thread.

I did too. Then I actually looked at the thread title. Your mistake is acceptable, it is late, or perhaps early.

Anything to beat my 400 - I put my name on it, turned it in, and left to go smoke some pot with the proctor.

My mistakes are always acceptable. But when somebody else (Sage) makes a mistake, God save them if I see it.

Oh, I started pointing out his mistakes to him lately, over AIM. He doesnly care. Too little initiative to change them. He would rather try to respond to an argument, I suppose...

He's never on AIM when I'm on.

Doesnly?

That was concious. I think. Or maybe subconcious. It is an abbreviation of doesn't and really. I was attempting to be ironic by showing a lack of initiative myself. I hope.

Something that has been irritating me over time....

Why do SO MANY Christians think it's the worst thing to hit the planet since the Ice Age?!! I'm a Christian, and a ton of Christians I know love the series as well. I'm perfectly aware that there is "witchcraft" involved, but let's be honest here for two seconds: NONE OF THIS IS REAL. Pagans say it's fantasy, and I've even heard some say it's an insult to witchcraft. Do I believe in Witchcraft? NO. I'm a CHRISTIAN. The story is completely make-believe and lets our imaginations soar with wonder. People who think it's real need to get a clue. I can see some concern (Divination, specifically. I will say that that part did make me slightly uncomfortable), but as long as the children are taught that this is all make believe, what's to worry? I know what I believe and mostly what I can handle. It's not like I'm going to go out to some shop and buy some tarrot cards. That's ludicrous. I've also read on a Christian website that some people can handle certain things, others can't. Some people may take this book seriously, some won't. Oh yeah, and did I mention that I've gone to Catholic schools? That's how I got introduced to the book. In the 6th grade, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was a reading assignment for the class, and much praise was given from parents and the students. It really hurt me when I had come to find out about Churches burning the books and everything. I was too young at the time to understand why and I'm starting to see the picture a bit more clearly. Don't we, as Christians, have better examples to set and more serious causes to worry about?

What about world hunger? War relief? Mission trips? Spreading the Gospel? Why aren't we putting as much effort into these causes as we are to trample over a simple and wonderful children's book series? We have more effective things to worry about and fix; this isn't helping.

I'm sure that you all are very aware of the enormous popularity of the Harry Potter series. I must admit I'm a huge fan of the books. I pre-ordered The Order of the Phoenix and got it early Saturday morning when it came out. Needless to say I think the books are wonderful, and J.K Rowling's writing is so rich and textured. The stories encourage good morals, courage, loyalty, overcoming your fears, and trying to make the best of yourself. Spreading positive messages couldn't get any better than this!

So please, feel free to express your full thoughts on this.

It all started when www.theonion.com reported a sarcastic and purely fun article about Harry Potter. Someone read the article but not the books and concluded that the Harry Potter series were bad and heavily into the dark practices of witchcraft and black magic. Later, the uneducated “The Onion” reader rebuked what he had said earlier about the Harry Potter books, but a lot of influence had already been made. This is the story that I heard anyways that might explain the bad feelings towards the HP series. Quite sad and silly if you ask me…

Agreed. The 5th book is yet to go on release where I am (friggin country areas  ) but I have read all four previous books about 5 times over, and can't wait for the 5th book.
