Has anyone tried using a steering wheel in third person?

So I'm a third person racer and I'm wondering if anyone has had or has success using a wheel from that camera view. I know its normally a "in car" thing but I need better throttle control for 2wd.

I did this last night because I was not messing up while in cockpit view so I thought I would try something a little different. I had fun doing it for a couple of laps but I went back to the cockpit.

I've tried it a little. The problem is that GT's 3rd person camera is too rigid and doesn't give a good feeling of how the car is turning. I find it extremely difficult, but I am sure others prefer it. The thing I find the hardest is not knowing how close to I am to a car in front of me. Personaly, I think the roof/hoodish cam provides the best idea of where the wheels are and where the front of the car is.

They had it good at some point in the demos before release.

Now it is rigid again.

Really? I find I have a better idea because I can see the whole car and what all the wheels are doing and whether or not its stepping out. I know what you mean about seeing the very front but my dislike is not seeing to the sides. Whoever was driving that Gt in third person was showing amazing control. Got to get me some of that!

I know sometimes my cars are better (often) but I lack the tool to consistently drive them to their limit and normally one mistake and its all over.
What is the best wheel currently for GT5?

Iver tried it but didnt like it. You dont seem to get the same feeling of speed in the "Chase" cam as you do with "bumper" or "cockpit". A lot of people say they dont like bumper cam cause they cant judge where the wheels are. Well the wheels are always just inside the edges of the Dials (Speed and Revs).

Myself I dont see the point in owning a wheel then driving in chase mode. Each to their own I guess.

I've tried it too, it felt weird and slow. Also if people get dizzy in the cockpit view, I got dizzy on the third person view. lol

I've always used this view since GT1 so when I got a wheel for GT5 I just kept using it. It's very useful for racing because you can see around your car better than any other view.

I don't like this view for anything.... I just find it wrong. All sense of speed vanishes too. Cockpit view for me. I don't care if I can see less, after practicing some laps on a track, you know what's coming up anyway.

Even in drifting, some people suggest, when learning, use the 3rd person view, you can see what's happening with the car. I bought a G27 so that I could feel it... seeing it, is over rated :)

I was using this for the X1 challenge. The sense of speed in bumper cam was just too great, and I wasn't reacting to the corners fast enough. In hood view or 3rd person view, the sense of speed is much slower, and you can see the track much better / react better.

In my opinion, anyway...

I also used it for the schwimmwagon event, because it goes so slow anyways, and I wanted to see the car and track.

I tried it, didn't like it at all. Personally, I think chase cam is only good when using a controller. So cockpit and roof cam for me when I use my DFGT.

Probably the best wheel for the price would be the G27, especially if you want the h-shifter. If you are on a budget, like me, the DFGT is a very well rounded wheel. It provides similar feedback and designated buttons, but lacks the nicer build materials and the h-shifter.

I don't think 3rd person view will help your consistency. Only track memorization and experience with the car will help you learn where the limits are and allow you to push your car to them. You have to use the wheel's feedback and the sound of your tires to judge when your car will slip.

👍

In GT4 I used almost only chase cam, because I bought my DFGT only 4 months ago. I tried to drive with chase cam with my DFGT, but I don't like it, the roof/hood cam combined with the force feedback give me a better idea of what my car is doing when using my wheel.

I almost exclusively use the bumper cam with my wheel. I do find that using the 3rd person view on the rally events (especially dirt) helps me control the car's drifting a lot more than the other views. As well, I'll use the 3rd person view in the nascar races sometimes as I find it easier to draft.

I used to drive 3rd person chase view but not with a wheel. I think it is much harder using that view. I would suggest any view but that one for a wheel user. Bumper view being the best overall.

No way. Really? I never thought it would make a difference when using a wheel or controller. I mean I use both wheel and controller. When I use either one, my preference for the view I drive in doesn't really change. I prefer 3rd person, and that's what I always drive with, no matter which peripheral I use.

*edit

On that demo with the Subaru, I think that's a bit too loose imo. The one in GT5 however, is way too rigid. GT3 was great for me. Also, funny how that Daiki Kasho song is not in the game.

third person??? blasphemy , looks like you like playin nfs games. i hate you .
cockpit view or 1º person, that´s the way gt5 meant to be played.

I tend to like the roof cam, I just wish it had some kind of mirrors. I do know that they will be in your line of sight though if put where they put the mirror like it is on bumper cam.

Or you could get off your elitist high horse and let people play the game how they want. There is no right way for GT5 to be played, you play it how you like.

I only use 3rd person view. Always have. Got my wheel after Christmas, and I thought in car would be better. I tried it for two weeks and then went back to 3rd person. I find it easier to judge speed, and easier and quicker to realize when you're starting to skid or loose control of the back end. As great and realistic as the wheel is, it's still not like driving a real car. I need more info to drive successfully. I can only get that 3rd person.

GTP_Racer_LP, who won the Belgian GT Academy, is using the third person view all the time (well, in gt5p he was)
So yes, it can be competitive
