I agree and disagree. Some people DO think they're race drivers when they're not, and it is dangerous. But there's a huge difference between driving fast and driving stupid. I happen to be a very good driver. I've had one wreck, due to hydroplaning (driving the speed limit oddly enough) and I managed to avoid contact with any other vehicles on the road and steered the car backwards onto the grass so as to avoid another car crashing into me. I am comfortable driving fast, and have the upmost faith in my abilities. As do my passnegers. All my friends know how I drive and they feel perfectly safe with me behind the wheel. Part of driving fast is taking into account the stupidity of other drivers. Anticipate their actions, and plan your escape if they do something stupid. It's mentally challenging, and exhausting, really. But fun.

Wow you sound exactally like I used to. My friends all trust me behind the wheel too. No matter how hard you try you can't watch out for everything that other vehicles or people may do in front of you. To assume that you can is over confident cockyness. Over confidence will lead you to an accident. The street is no place to drive like a race driver. Take it from me. Been there done all that. Had an accident too. Unfortuneatley it takes a real hard slap in the face for most folks to lose their sense of invincibility. I've been in an accident. Had all my friends in the car cheering me on as usual. All it took was for some dope not paying attention to try and squeeze in a left hand turn right across my lanes at the last second. BANG! Even watching out, when someone get's in your way you can't change physics. No matter how good you think you are. Or how about if you zip by some little old lady so fast it scares the S**t out of her and she wipes out? Rare yes, but it can happen.

This goes for anyone who gets the lead foot after playing a VIDEO GAME. I'm not saying speeding sometimes isn't okay but don't act like a race driver. We're not. It's very annoying to all the other drivers around you as well.

This is not an attack. It's a POV.

I don't believe in driving recklessly fast but going at speed limit is insane. Well here its 50km/h in most areas which is dreadfully slow.

People who drive at the speed limit are the ones causing all the accidents because most ppl will try to change lanes etc to pass them causing many fender bender accidents. I say raise the speed limit and you will have less accidents 💡

Make it illegal for grandma to drive 50kmh infront of you on a long one lane road 👍

I know I can't watch out for everything. I totally understand that I'm not invincible. Sometimes things can happen that are beyond your control. Only experience can teach you how to avoid these things. And sometimes there's not a way to avoid them. All I'm saying is that yes, I drive fast, but not in the way you see so many teenagers zipping through traffic. I sometimes take corners a little faster than I should, I sometimes exceed the speed limit by a good deal. When other cars are near, I allow for a margin of error for them as well as myself. Something may happen where I can't save it, sure, but I understand the risk. As do any and all of my passengers (all of whom wear set belts 100% of the time). I'm not saying that I can get out of any situation, but if there's a way out of it, I'm pretty sure I'll take it. There may come a time when I can't save it, and I do have an accident. I realize this. When I drive fast, there are rarely other cars around, and never enough to be considered more than light traffic.

if everyone follows the speed limits at 50 mph, with 3 cars space in between of each other. then there wont be any accidents right :sly:

It's all good. I just hate to see the other type you talk about, the ones that basket weave and such. I like to speed to but as you say only when traffic is dead. And never in a city. I used to speed so much in Toronto it was stupid. Highways are a different story though. Although I don't condone basketweaving or tailgating. Tailgating is the worst! Ever wish you had a steel beam that would unfold from your bumper so that you could slam on the brakes and wreck the tailgaters car? I think that should be standard equipment on a car. Air bags for the front, steel girders for the back...

Nah then we all get bored and complacent behind the wheel, our attention drops and we end up rearending each other anyway. That's what I find most dangerous about long highway runs. Same constant droning speed can be hypnotizing.

I guess in this respect GT4 is useful for everyday driving. An endurance or two on the Test Course will build up anyones ability to stay awake during long boring
constant speed journeys. :sly:

Actually, a good friend of mine who rides a motorcycle gave me a good idea. If you have a sunroof, feel free to borrow. :D Carry 5-10 nuts, ball bearings or other small metal objects with you in your car. When someone's tailgating, nonchalantly toss it straight up through the sunroof. Wind catches, object slows down FAST, other car finds metal object, hits brakes because it scared the CRAP outta them.

EDIT: Send me pix of the 440 6 pack. 👍

Yeah I've heard this one, and as bike riding dude, I can say its very tempting! Especially anytime cabbies are around.

I didn't mean to be misleading with my profile, as to imply that I acutally own an ultra rare '71 Cuda 440 6-bbl. I WISH!! No those are just two of my favorite cars in GT4. The Charger is my favorite car IRL. I did own a '68 Dodge Polara two door hard top though. Awesome car. 440 Magnum. 750 AVS.

Yes, it has. I find myself wondering why the other drivers aren't slamming into the trunk of my '89 Civic hatchback when I make right turns and am always thinking that if only I had some Racing Mediums, a Stage 2 Turbo, and Weight Reduction I could easily outrun the guy in the Mustang.

As a result of RL racing, I don't usually drive all that fast on the street. I do drive in a spirited fashion sometimes when the conditions allow. I am much better able to judge what those conditions are than someone who's never been to a track. In fact, that's the real issue. It's not speed that's dangerous, but inappropriate speed.

I find that when I'm a passenger with some of my friends, I tend to cringe a lot. Because they're not really speeding or anything... but... they're in danger, and they don't know it. The traffic laws are written to protect people from their own inability to judge what speed is appropriate for the situation (due to lack of training and experience). They have to write it to the lowest common denominator. But sometimes even that isn't low enough. And, of course, a lot of times you could go much faster and still be totally safe. So that just encourages people to go faster all the time, blissfully unaware of the times when they need to slow down.

I agree totally with you bro! Could't have said it better. In fact the epitome of street driving is realising how your driving can make you survive better on the roads even if it means putting in a little acceleration depending on the situation. Everything must be used in moderation to the best of your abilities and ANTICIPATION of other immediate road users around you. Plus a little knowledge of the road conditions and the condition of your cars will no doubt be helpful.

I teach advanced driving and bacic racing in Singapore and i always tell my students that driving on the track or public with the right attitude is the most importatn driving skill anyone can learn.

I DEFFINATELLY do not encurage or support fast driving in the city, even when there is no traffic..!!
I already said it in another thread, guy slamed into the car i was in as a passanger on the back seat, from the side of the car, cops found him alcohol and drugs in the blood, and he was going about 80-90 kmph, he slamed into the driver door of our car, and only my friend behind the co-driver broke his arm...
But i can't imagine what would happen if he was going ANY faster than that, and if he slam into the back door of our car, where there was 4 of us!! Since than i am having that vision of his headlights comming into us, every night, and always thinking, thank god that he wasn't going any faster, because he was drunk and all, and it was the long straight street, traffic lights wasn't working... so he could easilly be going over 120kmph in that street!!
So please guys, don't think that you can drive fast just because the street is empty, it was empty in our case, and look what happened, he came out of nowhere...!

I guess i can best describe my feelings on this matter with a picture.

Living within an hour of many roads like that... well... who can blame me. I do however, never drive without full control of the car's speed and direction.

I find myself driving more aggressively than before, yes. I find it especially fun to cut corners, often using both lanes - as long as it's possible (i.e. no other cars around). I also overtake a lot more than before, and I'm much more aggressive in general.
I'm not driving recklessly by any means though, I only go fast or use race lines/cut corners when the current road situation (amount of cars, surface grip etc) allows it.

Those slow drivers, driving 5-10kmph under the speed limit seriously pisses me off. And also the morons who thinks "since we're in the city, this 2-lane road doesn't count as a 2-lane road, so it doesn't matter if I'm in the left or right lane, no matter what speed I'm in" - MAAAN I hate it when there's cars in both lanes, both going at 50 kmph... Drive on the right unless you intend to overtake ffs! [/rant :p ]

Yesterday, driving home from Oslo

In which direction? Do you live south? Have you ever driven on Gamle Mossevei, it's an awesome place for cutting corners and speeding. Just a shame they've decreased the speed limit to 60kmph on more than 50% of the road :(

make me feel that my is slower that usual after just got done playing gt4

velocity.. i have a 70 440 cuda.. LOL .. not quite the 440+6 .. but close.. i guess? bone stock, along w/ the neon..

Mmm...'Cuda... My dream (of course) is a '71 Hemi 'Cuda. The only possible alternate is a '69 Boss 429 Mustang.

Yesterday, driving home from Oslo, I caught myself driving racing lines and speeding. I even passed a porche with my Toyota.
I eventually slowed down to my regular pace, thougt about it, and concluded with it being GT4's fault. I'll send PD my speeding tickets :)

GT4 is JUST a video game...make no mistake about it! RL driving should NOT mimick the way you drive in GT4 in any way...doing so would just be plain silly and dangerous.

Awesome! Man that looks like a drivers paradise :)
Where is it? And what's the speed limit? ;)

It's definitely a very unforgiving terrain though, if you slip off the road in high speed you need a good portion of luck if you want to survive!

Driving that would be awesome! It'd be so hard on the car though, esp. the brakes going downhill like that.

Its called Wrynose Pass, its in the lake district, cumbria, England.

Speed limit i never pay attention to on roads like that, i believe it is like any other road in the country, and is 60mph, but in all honesty you dont reach that kind of speed on that road.

One of the best bits about that road is just after it starts to level out, you get a good few tight turns that can be taken quickly, while being careful to avoid road accidents and death.

DUDE, you're the Dude, dude! :D

I salute you!

Even on higways exits you sometimes find signs of 50kmh or 40kmh when you can take that turn at 90kmh in ANY car!

Well i have all of less than 2 hours driving experience in RL, but i can say that going round a corner during my first lesson i was feathering the accelerator like i do in GT. Other than that, driving in RL and GT are just too different (even with DFP) at the moment. My instructor tells me to change at approximately 2000rpm  or every 10mph and then you have to keep an eye on your mirrors aswell as the road

I did find it annoying that my instructor would only allow me drive 30 Mph on a road which follows the national speed limit (60Mph). In the car with my brother when he drove that road at 60 it felt like he was speeding though. The road is straight and never has much traffic on it, but it's also quite narrow and a little bumpy which amplify the 'speed' feeling.

Kilner - That road looks like alot of fun, I guess that's national limit too, although, as i have been told, just because it's legal doesnt mean it's possible. Although on a road like that i bets good fun to try. I bet just the driving rythym on that road is enough for it to be fun without going excessivly fast

I like doing things i see in movies and videogames and then blame it on the company that made the game to ditch the blame because I'm not responsible for anything I do either.
