Has PS2 been a dissapointment

Given how long the machine has been out do you feel somewhat dissapointed by the games that are out. I have had the system a while now and only bothered to get three games.
I feel there has been a lack of quality games - everything decent seems to be a sequel.
Given all the big hype we first heard about the emotion engine and the future of gaming and how long the system has been out are you dissapointed at the catalogue of titles available?

Hmm... I don't think I'd say a disappointment - It's a decent system that has some quality titles on it that I enjoy.

The ones I play the most are:

GTA3
GT3
Devil May Cry
NFL2k2
Madden 2002
NHL 2002

I've got a few other games that I don't play as much, more for my girlfriend to play, but it's entertaining.

I didn't see much interesting for the PS2 announced at E3, so we'll have to see what time will bring.

I'm having trouble choosing my next game, but there are definetly some pretty sweet games comming out soon so i'm not dissapointed i've got 7 games and I play them one at a time like I play one solid for a while then i move on to the next one sort of in a rotation..

Also they may be sequels but it's their first time on a PS2 don't forget that.

I'm not dissapointed. The PS2 is selling more than all the other systems. They have great games. And a very good reputation. I'll be buying Sony console systems forever.

very happy with my PS2 :)

Have already worn out one contoller after two months (X button pushed through) have seven or eight games including GT3, Tekken Tag, Quake.

And can't wait to get Medal of Honour frontline, but will finish GT3 first.

A bit noisey is my only complaint.

No I wish. I want to take it right back to Wal*Mart where they ALWAYS take back things but now they will not. :(

Really? They've cracked down?

That was always my source to bring things back... regardless of where I bought 'em.

<sigh>

I guess they got tired of people rippin' them off.

Well, sequels are a part of life with anything, especially in console games. The only reason the the PS1 had so many fresh titles is because 3d was just being hashed out. If you really think about it, there hasn't been more than a handful of original ideas since the days of the atari 2600. The graphics just keep on getting better though (And the systems allow for more range of play)
I'm not dissapointed in my PS2, but I don't think it has hit it's stride yet.

Just look at all the A-list games
GTA3
GT3
Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance
Time Crisis 2 and Vampire Night
Final Fantasy X
Ico
Onimusha
Twisted Metal: Black
Metal Gear Solid
SSX
Splashdown
Red Faction
Devil May Cry
Timesplitters
Tekken tag
Virtua Fighter 4
And more to come.

I must admit I've been a lot more careful with my game buying, probably the cost of the games, I think, so it probably only seems there aren't as many.

I think a lot of developers are taking their time with their big releases - like TOCA Race Driver and Colin McRae Rally 3, as examples, so we may see a lot of stuff come through in the next 6-8 months.

You could find plenty of dirt cheap PSX games in the last 12-18 months before the PS2 was released so I was picking up anything that looked interesting.

I am not disappointed with PS2. I already have games such as MGS2, GT3, and FFX. There is considerable time to be spent to beat all 3 of these games. Also dont through out the online gaming future. It has the ability to be very interactive with other people, which is going to be another great feature.

I wonder if it's because of the depth of the games I haven't been buying as many - been keeping my interest longer, perhaps?

I have had the PS2 since about October, so that's 7 months, I have three games. In 7 months of owning the Dreamcast I had about 7 or 8 games. I dunno it just seems like the mad hype we first had about how the emotion engine would change everything there really hasn't been anything that spectacular.
Progress had gone steadily onwards like it always has in the leaps between systems but we were promised a lot more for PS2.

 - You are totally right

I am not dissapointed at all with there line up of games. They have some awesome titles out there. I AM Dissapointed with the system itself. My PS2 broke after three months of owning it. I lost the reciept so i couldnt take it back and i called sony and they wanted 150$ to fix it, but the thingis that it shouldnt have broke in the first place. I only had it three months and i took VERY good care of it. I think there is a prob with the durability of it

What the hell are you talking about?? I never have been disappointed with my PS2. Everyone knows that's a great console, even though they have their problems.

PS2 makes xbox and gamecube look smaller. Great games keep coming out and I'm happy with the lineup they gave us.
btw: this is my 200th post yay!

I'm not dissappointed with PS2 at all. I have mine for more than a year now, and never had any problems.
And there are many good games for it, more then on Xbox
