Have you switched to a wheel from a DS3 or a DS3 from a wheel? Are you still able to master the one you switched from? I went wheel from DS3 and every now and then use the DS3 to run races instead-off pulling out the wheel. I stink with the DS3 now.

The last time I was as quick with a pad as with a wheel was when GT3 was the game, hehe! I've been a wheel user since GT3 & can't even drive properly let alone cleanly with a pad now.

:dopey:

I bought a wheel about a month ago now the only time I use the DS3 is when I'm grinding B-Spec races.I had no idea how much the wheel would change the game play,I would have bought one years ago!:dopey:

I switched from DS3 to wheel back in GT4.. I hardly ever play with a DS3 now so yea my skills deffinatly are not very sharp!

I played with the sticks all through the releases and could drift and drive like a master.....since GT4 I acquired a Logitech Momo Racing wheel for PC games like GTR2, GTR Evo, Race 07, Shift 1 etc..since then I got spoiled. Now and then when I'm too lazy to setup the fold-able drafting table I mount my wheel to (allows me to adjust tilt for better steering), I use the DS3 and I can't drive my cars with current setups. That or I'm just not used to it. I tried for 30min getting "acclimated" and certain cars I can drive, but not to my full potential I could with the wheel.

I did notice however that when you put the throttle down with a DS3 there seems to be better throttle control then with the pedals. Maybe due to the fact I'm used to having some throttle sensitivity options in PC games. But anyhow from my observation of driving myself I'm able to plant the proverbial foot on the gas with the DS3 in some turns on Nordeschleife that normally using the wheel I couldn't. Now isn't that odd? So it seems you have more traction with the DS3 opposed to the wheel? Made sure tire wear was on and tested both scenarios recently since I can't play online right now.

I've been a d-pad since playing Virtual Racing on Sega through the current GT series and this comment has me thinking....maybe I ought fork over the dough.

I can still post lap times close to my wheel times with a DS3 but I'm a lot more inconsistent with it.

I was a d-pad driver since the Sega as well (Ayrton Senna Super Monaco GP II), but then picked up the Logitech DF GT earlier this year and couldn't believe the difference. Like others I've relegated the DS3 to B-spec races and the occasional A-Spec oval race.

I don't know. I haven't used the ds3 or any other controller for driving since I got my dfpro.
But it might be a little bit rusty by now, I'd imagine :D

I think a DS3 would destroy a wheel.
What the? I wrote this and I was thinking what on earth did I write...

What I meant was I have a DFGT and a DS3. If I use a DS3 for a while without using the DFGT, I get really bad at driving with the DFGT.

I noticed that a simple track like Daytona was difficult to hold the line with the DS3. When I got the wheel, no problem. Nurburgring actually "feels" better with the DS3 but I can't do a perfect lap on it like I can with the wheel. I got the lap model for $50. Logitech discontinued it. It's got brake and gas paddles on the wheel. It's not a major chore to bring it out. And it works very well. Took some getting use to. I'd say get one, there is a distinct difference!

I used to be good with the ds3, but since i got the wheel i think it was all worth it. Better throttle control and steering.

I am not as good at racing with a pad but I can drift much better with one. I can't drift very well with my G27. I'm trying to learn but I'm too erratic with the inputs when using the wheel. Too heavy right foot.

I have not even used my pad to race since I got my wheel, so I guess I'll have got worse.:sly:

I played Gt4 a lot with a controller, and was pretty good at doing so.
GT5 prologue same story.....
..... until I got my G25.
Now I'm a lot better (if I may say so), I can't get the times I get with the G25 with my DS3.
But ever since I recieved my G25 I made a promise: never to play a racing game without it anymore ;)

Anymore I always use a wheel, but a few weeks ago I tried the DS3 again and it seemed a little weird, but about the same. It could be because I race with both analog sticks though. Much more fun with the wheel :)

To a certain extent it has I suppose. In the way that I'm not as quick with a DS3 as I am with a wheel. But I'm still pretty quick with a DS3. I have to use one whenever I go round to my friends house, as he doesn't have a wheel. But I can still run quick lap times, and outperform him who has always used a pad, with all the driving aids off.

So yeah, I can still race with a DS3, I'm just no where near as smooth as with a wheel.

I think it did. I just don't want to find out. The game is just not fun anymore with a DS3 after I bought a G27. The only thing I do with the joypad is grinding Indy and B-specing. When I get to my parents' house, where my wheel is, the first thing I do is taking out my wheel and hooking it to a table.

I just bought a G27 mostly because I got sick of finishing 3-4-5-6. It's too difficult to compete online with the wheel owners. I haven't had a chance to use it yet since PSN has been down, though.

I'm pretty much worthless with a pad nowadays as I've been wheel-only since GT3.

I think it's largely the same thing as when you switch to a wheel: at first you're terrible, after a day or so you get to where you can handle it, after a week or so you start being more consistent, after a couple weeks or a month or so you get fully 'up to speed.' Of course, if you don't completely stop using one or the other for a long time, you won't lose nearly as much of the technique/muscle memory.

The problem is, when you switch from a pad to a wheel, the sheer fun of using a wheel keeps you coming back until you finally get properly comfortable with it. When you switch from a wheel to a pad, the sheer silliness of it keeps trying to make you quit instead of soldiering through.

I pretty much leave the pad for screwing around while not entirely in full contact with my senses. Or for having a game at a friends, which often amounts to the same thing(and usually with a less unforgiving game).

Have been doing a few tests with the D pad and the DFGT. When using the D pad I feel as if i'm going faster but it's not the case. Generally able to beat my D pad ghost straight away with the wheel.
Drifting is much harder with the wheel, though.

Go for it man,you wont regret it! The ability to modulate the throttle and brake and the smooth steering has made a huge difference in my times! I'm using a DFGT btw....👍

Since getting my wheel I suck bad with the controller, although I do find Rally and Drifting much easier with the DS3.

Fairly new G27 owner here. The only thing that I find easier with the DS3 over the wheel is recovering from a spin. Other then that, the wheel is a lot more satisfying.

Ever since I got my t500rs I never used a pad in gt5. I'm hoping I won't have to go that route ever again. I'm 100% sure I would do a lot worse with a ds3 now.
