Has your car ever been stolen?

I've been really lucky, as my car has never been nicked. The closest situation was when some dodgy-looking punter was walking through our neighbourhood looking at all of the cars. My Celica was parked on the driveway, and he apparently came up to it and had a good look into the interior. He walked off when he saw my neighbour on the front lawn.

She told me about the guy, so I parked the car at a secret location, right away from the neighbourhood. A few nights later, my neighbours’ car was stolen, right near where mine would have been.

It really annoys me that the Police are too busy standing by the side of the road with their hand-held speed guns charging us for speeding 5km/h over the limit, instead of tracking down people like this.

I had my 1983 BMW 635CSi stolen about £4500 into restoring it. Never saw it again. Wasn't insured, lost all the money.

Annoyingly I'd put about £2k into the Mazda in the few months preceding it being stolen, but as I'd insured the car for the value I bought it and had £500 excess on my policy, all I got back for it was £500. Big chunk of money straight down the drain.

I had one of my many beater Mondeos stolen from outside work some years back. Unfortunately it was recovered largely undamaged. I was hoping it would be abandoned and burnt out, but i wasn't that lucky.
