Are you kidding?
After coming across this tidbit, I thought the whole topic of hating on youtube deserved a thread.

xTwistxmyheartxX
(10 hours ago) sex pistols r crap they stole all their ideas from avril lavigne wut a bunch of w***ers their jealous they arent as good as avril gits

Bear in mind this was about a song released in 1977. And Avril Lavigne was born in 1984.

Why are people so quick to be inflammatory and disparaging on youtube? And does anyone else have any amusing examples?

Comments on YouTube are the prime definition of the words:

Stupid. Idiotic. Racist. Retarded. Dumb.
There are too many to list. Do not take these people seriously.

I don’t read comments on YouTube – that’d be like taking my chair and slamming it against my head, repeatedly.

I also find that the comment function on youtube is one of the most hostile environments you can find on the Internet. That's why I have the comment function set to "manually enable" for all the videos I uploaded there.

I had a nice one with this video, a funnily meant, yet mean german commercial for opticians. I even left "not for the faint and animal lovers!" in the description, but noone seems to care.

So one day, the following comment was left:

"This is ****ing sick! I hate Germany now! ****ing Nazis!"

Of course, I removed this comment, still I felt the need to respond. Here is what I wrote:

"Dear XXXXXXXXXXXX,

I just read the comment you left for my Guinea Pig commercial, in which you state that the content is "****ing sick", and that you "hate germany now". Additionally, you call germans "****ing nazis".
It seems you are a friend of guinea pigs, and I have nothing against them whatsoever. I actually think that they are cute animals. Therefor, I do have respect for the fact that commercials like these are not for everyone, which is why I put the follwoing line into my comment about this video:"Not for the faint and animal lovers!".

It is your right to dislike this commerial, but that is no reason to discard and insult a whole nation. I am sure that there are commercials from your country which I won't like, but you won't find me insulting you or even calling you names.

As a result, I removed your comment from the list. It would only lead to further insults and a discussion that has little to do with the actual subject. Feel free to reply to this message, but please, do it in a sophisticated manner.

Best regards
the Interceptor"

And I could not believe that I actually got an answer, and what it said:

"I'm sorry. I don't hate Germany, actually, i am german :]

I was just really mad of course because I have two guinea pigs of my own.

Thanks for sending a polite message"

Youtube is a very strange place... :odd:

Why are people so quick to be inflammatory and disparaging on youtube?

Because they know there's going to be no comeback worse than an angry comment in return. The day someone works out how to punch people in the face through the Internet, these sort of comments would quickly reduce in number. Wind someone up in real life and you get hurt; wind someone up on the Internet and you get nowt.

I've come to the conclusion that fighting, seriosly, on the internet is a lot like watching men pillow fight.
Kind of perverse, and not a whole lot of joy.

Talking about the Zonda F:

putfit15:"Dude your dumb they coast over a million dollars and goes over 800 mph"
porscheowns16:"ok now your smokeing dope lol"
putfit15:"they do they coast over a million bucks ok maybe like 600 to 700 mph but never 215 my Nissan 350z goes over 300 mph with the right tuning."
peopleadmire:"dude...ur soo ****IN DUMB....OMG...700 mph?!?!?
ahahah, da car would ****in FLY if it goes dat much....do yew even kno watcha talkin bout...a 737 aircraft cant make it n WTF were yew thinkin...."
wallace2988:"ur such a ****ing idiot man, not a single car on the street does over 300 mph ....learn what ur ****ing talking about"
putfit15:"noob dude trust me i ****ing own one."

Every time I read Youtube comments, I lose a little more faith in humanity.

300mph?!

Oh dear Lord.

On a video of Dwight Howard dunking: "I guess running away from the fuzz and avoiding gunshots while carrying a 46" TV has really paid off."

Those weren't the exact words, but something of the like. I think this lack of, shall I say, mainstream intelligence, is due to a lack of moderation and fixed rules. I mean, YouTube is so massive that it is hard to create a fixed set of rules AND ban anybody who disobeys them, because everybody seems to comment at least ONCE, and there are way more than 100,000 members on YouTube. Our moderators have a slightly easier job because many members are lurking, staying out of harm's way (harm as in the possibility of violating the AUP by an inappropriate post).

heh. even I've had to shut down "spam" comments on YT...and what I mostly look at is vid game walkthroughs

Didn't anyone else find the guinea pig commercial hilarious? :dopey:

YouTube's comment system is the way it is because it's essentially a wide-open forum with no rules on one of the absolute most well-known websites on all of the internet -- not just to internet-savvy people, but to casual websurfers as well.

Between the genuine idiots and the trolls, it's a cesspool of misinformation, ignorance, and misguided anger. It's hilarious and depressing at the same time.

I love the comments on Youtube, its like the worlds stupid population comming together for a party!

Robin

I dont read them, their usually dumb or pointless all the time. But I read them if I want a laugh.

I've watched a few Beatles songs on there, and in between the "OMG TH BETLES ARE THE GRST BND EVER!!!!!!!!11!!!!!!11!!11!" And "OMG PUAL LOOKS SO CUTE" and "Paul reminds me of Tony Montana in this vid" aswell as "NANANANANANA NANANA HEY JUDE" and "KOO KOO KA CHOO", someone posts "HAH BEATLOES SUCK, THEY JUST COPIED *Insert Favorite band of today* OMG!!!!" and "John Lennon was a *insert choice word*"

Edit: oh and "DIE ONO U *Choice word* *Choice Word*!!!!!!!, U SCERD UP TEH GRATEST BAN OF AL TIME!!!1!!!1111!"

From,
Chris.

I think comments on YouTube are pointless, and I don't know why YouTube keeps them on there. They're just wasting database space and server resources.

I'd say 99.9% of the comments I've seen are just abuse and drivel. What's the point. YouTube should just remove the comments functionality from the site. I think it'd be better that way.

I think the comment rating system is bunk.

If you disagree with someone, woe betide.

Youtube comments make me lose faith in humanity. The blatant idiocy I've seen people type there trumps even the infamous -chan boards. And that's saying something.

If any of you are using a browser that supports your own style sheets (like Safari), I’ve just figured a way to disable YouTube comments. Just put this in the style sheet:

Code:
body[onLoad^="performOnLoadFunction"] #commentsDiv { display: none; }

Didn't anyone else find the guinea pig commercial hilarious? :dopey:
TBH It was funny to me. Not HILARIOUS, but yes, funny.
Between the genuine idiots and the trolls, it's a cesspool of misinformation, ignorance, and misguided anger. It's hilarious and depressing at the same time.
A very true definition of YouTube comments. :yup:
I love the comments on Youtube, its like the worlds stupid population comming together for a party!

Well said

What annoys me is when I go onto a song video I like and I see these things:

"omg dis band r t3h suxorz"
Why watch their vids then?

"[Song Lyrics]"
Yeah - well done, you're much better than any of the 100s of lyric websites around with your poor spelling and grammar

I don't read the comments. If I like it, I watch it. If I don't like it, I stop halfway through. That's the beauty of YouTube.

As for the rest...what's the point of the comments, anyhow? I usually know what and why I'm watching something in the first place.
