Hate the "golden car"

I'm not sure I understand the questions. My update has a beginner Daytona race which the NSX is dominate. I also have and expert Daytona race which allows the Ford GT, Vette Z06, and both non-tuned Vipers to race. The Ford GT is dominate here. Yes, I'm an Expert racer , with ALL driving aids OFF. But I do dabble in the begginer and intermed. races just to see whats going on. Please clarify.

My opinion on this whole thing is that 'Golden Cars' exist in real life just as much as they do on GT. Obviously the Golden Car in F1 would be the Ferrari or McLaren, in WRC it seems to be the Fords and Citroens; you wouldn't take a Corvette off-road and you wouldn't take a Lancer Evo around a Super Speedway circuit.

This might all be stating the absolute obvious but not all cars are suited to all situations, so why should a driving simulator be any different? At least there's not one overall god-mode car (except the Clio (in most cases) and F2007) that wins every time on every track. Besides, when the finished GT5 comes out we'll probably have a million options (well, not literally) meaning that there aren't just one, but several of these cars, like for example how the Impreza and Lancer rally cars were a pretty safe bet on the rally races, the 88CV and R92CP being solid group C choices, the NSX and Supra being good for the Japanese-only races...

...I do agree with you though and its a shame really, people don't bother searching through lots of cars to find one thats got a nice feel, they just look at whats winning all the time and pick that.

yes thats exactly right, I think alot of people that race online use this concept.:rolleyes: I'm like...Whatever happened to ORIGINALITY!!!:crazy:

I use the Mine's anywhere and everywhere I can... To bad I cant get it competitive in the No Mercy race... It just doesnt like the tires and PP restriction.... too much downtuning.... anyway... the Mine's is somewhere inbetween I think.... sometimes dominant, sometimes not... depending on PP as well... because I feel it performs way better in 800PP than say 750PP... I wouldnt necessarily say its a golden car.... sometimes it is though :)

I find that more often than not the fastest car for a given PP will be a car tuned in the upper half of it's PP range. Obvious exceptions being the Ferrari C and the Clio T. Those cars are fast everywhere in their tuning range.

Yes, very true indeed. GTR for example can be tuned like this for No Mercy and it performs very well. Same goes for the Evo X/Tuned and I noticed the Lotuses are pretty fast there too...

I don't care what the golden car is, I drive which ever cars I like. If the car I like is the golden car, good, I can win but actually enjoy doing it.

Same here. 👍 I personally would love races where you have to drive the exact same cars with identical (stock) settings and just let it all rely on driver skill.

If someone has a problem with a car I choose, I'd be glad to do a 1v1 race in identical cars, so I'll back it up if need be (once we get to make rooms, that is). The trick to doing well in races is running consistently solid times and not making a big mistake (and hoping to not get rammed).
 
I don't have a problem with "Golden Cars", I think these machines that are easy to drive quickly are a good thing.

I do have a problem with people who are geniunely skilled at the game and aren't interested in a good close race who use golden cars to pull sooooo far ahead of the rest of the field that they're untouchable. Sure, pop yourself in the GTR for a race or two, but please if you're winning by a margin of 30 seconds over 5 laps, perhaps it's time to try a harder car?

There are, unfortunately, people who play Gran Turismo only to stroke their own egos. Yes, they are extremely fast, but they're only ever seen in the Golden Car and they win by miles. Did they win on skill? Yes, partially.

Did they win on using the Golden Car? Most definitely!

I would like to see people mix it up and use different cars more often instead of the same ol' same ol'.

Not everyone is at the same skill level. When I'm around people and drivers who aren't super-fast, I'll pick a machine that I can race them in and still have a blast. When I'm in a field of quick drivers, I'll pick a car that's competitive.

At the end of the day, if you can keep up with a so-called "lesser car", then you deserve the kudos.

With the RBE nobody is untouchable. Certainly there will be races when one guy has alot more skill than the other drivers. When I started racing online I used to see the fast guys pulling away from the field, including me. I figured it was a sign that I needed to become a better tuner and a better driver. I would tune and practice and come back to try again. I don't want to race a fast guy in a slow car just so I can keep up. If I can't keep up (especially with the RBE) then it's MY bad.

When I join an online race I am always hoping for a good race, but I can't tell how many will be in the race or what they will be driving, much less what their skill level will be. So I pick a fast car with a fast tune and hope to have some good competition. But when I have tried a slower car to "even the odds" it just seems there is one or more fast guys and I'm left frustrated wishing I could be up there mixing it up.

Yes I love a close race. I have just as much fun losing a close one as I do winning a close one. But none of us can artificially manufacture a great race other than to set up a planned race time with planned entrants.

My method is to bring my A game and hope others do the same.
 
I'm talking about the more recent No Mercy Events @ Suzuka. The RBE events are so fake it's not funny.

If everyone brings their A game and everyone brings the "golden car" then you're left with a field of cars that are all the same. If you were to extrapolate that further, you may as well say that Gran Turismo should only have 50 tracks and 50 "golden cars" because all the other cars are useless and everyone should only be using the fastest car for each track.

I bring my A game to each and every race, but I don't necessarily bring the fastest possible car all the time. If that was the case, I'd just be driving one car forever and it would get pretty boring very quickly.
