but SHIFT2 is looking VERY promising!
The car lineup, though not as massive as the one in GT5, looks VERY promising. Not to mention engine swaps, a proper livery editor, full interior and exterior strip downs and modifications. The graphics looks respectable, the physics are promised to exceed any other game, day and night, great tracks, etc etc. I understand that this is a Gran Turismo forum, but we're all race fans, real and game alike.. so what are your opinions on this?
Is it enough to set GT5 aside, even for a short while?

There is a forums strictly dedicated to Shift. If I wanted to discuss it I'd go there.

I'm gonna preorder Shift 2 as you get the extra events. If Shift 2 drives better than GT5 I may put GT5 aside for a while. If not, i'll probably play both. Then in September, its time for F1 2011! :D

It's enough for me to try it when I can get it for about $25 on eBay. As far as I am concerned, GT is a proven product while NFS is not (at least for my tastes). I'll buy GT6 on release day for $60 or whatever, but Shift2 will wait until it has collected a little dust. I'm doing the same for Test Drive Unlimited 2. It looked good, but I don't want to pay full price for something I'm not sure about.

I pre ordered shift 2 the other day, i think itll be way more fun then gt5. GT5 is pretty much done after like 50 a spec races, not to mention the ai dont even try to race, theyre just there for a nice sunday drive. Cant wait for all the customization and COMPETITIVE racing in Shift 2.

Not to mention engine swaps

If there's one thing I'd love to be able to do it's putting something with a lot of grunt in my VW Beetle. Wished that was possible with GT.

Don't care about the other threads and I agree with OP. GT has things going for it, but after 5-6 years, it should have been better and without so many obvious omissions.

I would move the discussion here.

More of an appropriate venue.

Don't waste ya money in test drive 2 it's rubbish cars don't sound good at all.shift 2 should be good.but like all other nfs games they have been using the same cars in all of there games since underground 2 and to be Frank i would like to see nfs shift 2 with new cars.but we shall see ey

If its anything like the first shift then no sorry its going to be crap just like all nfs games, before gt5 the best racing games on ps3 were grid and dirt 2, shift paled in comparison to those 2 games and gt5 blows it out of the water! Carnt see shift 2 having much more to offer than the first installment but hey I might be wrong and it might be fantastic, I hope so as am a racing game fan at the end of the day.

I can doubt the promising physics quick enough. They've never tried to make a sim so i doubt anybody can get it in one go.
