You and me both, Blazing!
Actually, I got hit in the nose with a baseball. I was nine when it happened, but I remember it like it was yesterday.
I was on first, and the kid at bat hit the ball to center field. Bear in mind that this was Little League, so the center fielder is as close to second base as you can be and still be in the outfield.
So, I make a mad dash for second. Got there with time to spare. I remember watching the kid scoop up the ball, and throw it to second at top speed - while turning. That ball got big in a hurry. It couldn't have taken more than a second to get to me, but it seemed like a minute or more.
Next thing I knew, I was flat on my back...unable to breathe through my nose or open my eyes. I was positive I'd been blinded. I remember hearing al the voices around me, and someone blotting the blood from my face. I found out later my coach had used his sweatshirt to try and stop the bleeding...I don't rightly recall if we ever did get it clean.
At any rate, my septum remains deviated to this day. My right nostril is almost useless. Perhaps someday I'll get it set straight, but Lord only knows when.
I've also had a seizure. That was just a couple of years ago. Never had one before or since, and I still have no idea what triggered it. I wasn't unconcious - I just remember an awful feeling ripping through my body (convulsions) that I couldn't control. I was sure that I was dying. Believe me, I'd have rather lost conciousness. Here's to hoping it was the first and last, eh?
