Have I got the solution for you.

For many years, the Gran Turismo Community has used the X and [] Buttons for accelerating and braking. But you don't have the freedom of feather. Then try this...

Reconfigure your controller settings to use L2 and R2.

Manual minded? No problem, R1 and L1.

Rearview? 'Triangle'
Handbrake - same
There are the basics, fiddle around to see what works!

It can be a bit uncomfortable at first but for technical events (RBChallenge.) This is the way to go.

GET PRACTISING.

I think you're a bit late to the party with this info... "for many years" people have been using L2 and R2 on the DS3.

R2 and L2 aren't precise. I've notice that holding it half way sometimes gives me full throttle, other times 75-80% and sometimes 50%. I know it's not me putting different pressure. Same goes with the brakes. I raced for years with abs off on xbox games with no difficulty. I do the same braking technique on a ds3 and I can't run abs off. I have to set it to 1, even then I still find myself braking like I did with abs off, just not as accurately. I may have a faulty controller though.

I doubt your controller being faulty is the reason it does that.
I bought a new one recently after my wheel got a burn circuit, and it does the same thing as yours.

You can also use the right analog stick - forward for acceleration back for braking - you may that easier than the trigger buttons for getting progressive throttle and brake.

This is the way to go. Every since the analogs been added.

Sorry could not resist. But let me guess, your next "protip" is to use the analog stick and not the d-pad for steering.

Next revolutionary tip would be to get one of the newfangled "steering wheels"...:sly:

That may be great but if (like me) you want to dab the brake a little while accelerating that may be a little hard.

Assign the brake to a second button:idea:💡

R2 & L2 for gas/brakes, respectively. Left analog stick for steering. Right analog stick for gear changes. I use up and left for upshifting; down and right for downshifting. It feels much better than X and Square for gas/brake and L1 and R1 for gears. I really like this new setup.

The analog sticks are more precise for steering/gas/brake, but use what you like. As mentioned above the triggers are not precise and it can cause problems.

I won't tell you what to use for yourself. If you want to assign D-Pad Up for braking, feel free, but, yeah, I can't see doing it any other way that the analogs for precision.

At least with a controller you have lots of choice of what buttons you want to use to do certain things. And use whatever is most comfortable but that can still allow you to feather the throttle. X can be hard to do this with, but I never tried other options when I used the controller - I bought a wheel as soon as I could.

Lol, this can be useful for other newbies. But when I first started playing Gt5 I thought about this straight away

I'm old school and still use X, square, and the d-pad. I've gotten so used to using X and square that I really have no problem controlling the throttle. And as much as I want to use the stick for steering, it just doesn't feel right to me. On dirt and snow, however, I will use the stick.

I use the left stick to steer and the right stick for gas and brake, I've been playing this way since GT3. I also switched my E brake to R1, much easier to use when drifting.
