HDMI to RCA

My pc didn't have hdmi. It's uses the vga. Is that ok? I'm bit lost I'm all this but will find out when I get it tomorrow I guess.

Or if you could show what you mean with a YouTube link then I would know exactly what you mean.

VGA is OK.

It is a bit like this video but you don't need s-video for EasyCap and the yellow cable going into a TV as your PC is connected to your monitor so you will be able to see and hear everything. Hopefully you know what I mean after seeing this video. Just think the laptop screen in the video is what you will be seeing on your monitor.

 
Ok i see what you mean i think, but im not using a TV. Im using my monitor. I wont be using a TV, MONITOR at the same time. Just the monitor. The only time i will be using the TV is when i will record a replay.

You don't need a TV at all though. Your monitor will be connected to your PC via VGA. You will be able to see the PS3 input and record it on your PC due to EasyCap. I don't get why you want to have the PS3 on two screens, the monitor will be enough, no TV required at all unless you want to watch something on the TV while it is recording if you get bored ;).

I got my easycap today and your right. I have it connected to the AV MULTI and it does show up on ULEAD. I can now capture live game play.👍.

Quality isnt that great but i expected that. But i can fiddle around with settings to get it better. But haven't tried yet. Ill get it with more experience im sure.
 
You can use a program like Handbrake(think it takes AVI formats) and it retains the original quality great at less than 1/5th of the original file size.

I thought I'd be right on this, just found it strange that you were talking about using a separate TV and converting HDMI to RCA and stuff like that when you had already the setup required to do everything you wanted once you got the EasyCap device.

Make sure to record using the highest resolution settings to improve quality. You should choose a codec, something like MPEG2 and MP3 or DVD option in your format settings to reduce file size. Otherwise it will still record uncompressed. Failing that download MediaCoder and use that to encode the uncompressed video and audio to any codec you want, something like XVID or H264/X264 and a bitrate over 1200Kbps.
 
The program Nick suggested is AWESOME!!!

Dropped an 8GB file (1080p) down to 273MB with no quality loss! I am forever grateful that he told me about it.

To clarify slightly (Got use my uni knowledge at some stage in my life...). The reason most captured recordings are so big is that it's uncompressed data. A pixel (generally) is made up of 3 colours, with one byte of colour data each (RGB). Uncompressed, it stores 3 bytes of data for every pixel of every frame.

So when you calculate how much data you are writing each second: Height x Width x 3 (Bytes) x FPS.

A 1080P 30FPS video like GT5 would be 1920x1080x3x30 = 186624000 bytes = ~178Mb each second.

Which is how one lap of the Nurburgring can grow to 10GB. And why we have video compression. :)

Make sure when on Virtual Dub to put Audio to full processing mode and choose a codec like MP3. You might need to install that codec, you can find it on the internet. The person in the video is using S-Video and he says it gives 30% better picture quality. Might be good to get an AV cable with S-video out for your PS3.
 
I'll look into that. But there's guys on YouTube who have better quality then me and they are using just RCA and easycap. Why can't I get that sort of quality?
 
S-video will give a better picture than using composite video (the yellow RCA plug) if available. Don't forget also that youtube video dimensions are usually small, that makes a poor videos look better. But the only way to get a truly decent quality quality video is to record in HD and as you pointed out, these devices aren't cheap. VirtualDub can compress video and perform filter functions such as deinterlacing, but it can't turn a crap quality video into a great one.
 
I'll get a s video cable then. I'd just like a clear picture and what ever writing on screen to be clearly visible too. Can anyone tell me what settings they use so I cam get a half decent picture?
 
Muck around with them. I know that dramatically changing them is sometimes a good thing. I can't remember the settings I used to use :(
 
I was thinking that but I have no idea what I'm doing lol. Compress this bit rate that..... It's all WTF to me lol.
 
That's a rip off and it's no use getting a converter since you would be converting it down to composite anyways. Your recording devices has S-video anyways. Almost every old TV has one.
