Has Polyphony Digital ever explained why head tracking isn't available across all game modes? I'm currently wondering if a wider support of this feauture can be patched in and whether it is realistic to expect such an update for Gran Turismo 5.
As Kazunori Yamauchi explained by himself in one of his Twitter-escapades, head-tracking in GT5 is limited to Arcade mode because of the insufficient RAM in PS3.
It will probably never be patched, because of the above reason.
We can probably expect a real implementation of it with the next-gen GT game.
Wait, what's head tracking? I've never heard of it.
FoxiolI own the PS Eye. It is great by the way.
also i can use it on my PC with specific drivers and can do more things too. Works almost as good as Track IR which is the motion sensor used for PC simulators.
NielsenToo bad, I guess we're up for a long wait then. Thanks for making that clear.
This should explain:

Head tracking would definitely be interesting, but really not practical. I'm sure most of you guys don't usually play in cockpit mode, and it's the same kind of thing. Unless you're actually sitting in a car, it will only make matters more confusing. Oh and if there is more than 1 person in the room, humble onlookers will be considerably disoriented.
Can it be combined with triple screen mode?

Spagetti69I have no problems tracking my head. Its always on my shoulders.
I have no need of a tracking device.
If i had to take an educated guess id say that with the 512mb memory that the playstation 3 has head tracking whilst in modes such as online is just pushing the limits a bit too far, GT5 is already taxing the PS3's limited memory.
Unfortunately the PS3 has 256mb's of RAM, which is the sole reason for so many headaches PD have faced. 512mb's would have been a blessing to all developers.
