What headphones do you run? or do you run a speaker system instead? Details?

Ive recently got these and i really like them. I run headphone setup with a mic as when i play GT Legends we run on a Ventrillo server and with a push to talk button it really is a great setup. I dont have any speakers other than monitor speakers plus im not the only one in the house so headphones definetly fit the bill the best. I find the quality of hte sound to be very nice as well. running rechargable AAA batteries means i dont have to worry about the battery as we just charge it up (have a spare as well).

Im sure a speaker system would ultimatly be the best setup but it just wouldnt happen in my house, since id be fighting TV's and such and i just wouldnt be able to zone out and concentrate with all the background noise going on.

I tried headphones but IMO there is nothing better than hearing the rumble of a surround sound set up and hearing the game all around you. I recently tried several different types and I am very very happy with the last set of speakers I bought. They were reasonably priced too for $199.99. There are also quite a few adjustments you can make to really dial them in. 👍
Logitech® Z5300e 5.1 28O Watts Surround Sound Speaker System (6-Piece)
Here is the thread I made about it https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=82506&highlight=surround+sound

I also have Logitech Z5300e 5.1 and although its great, I much prefer my headphones, I had a great set of Sennheiser's (forgot the model) but I damaged them. :(

Now I pretty much use any headphones I have lying around including my PSP earphones.

The Logitech Z5300e has a nice handy controller to plug my headphones/earplugs in.

I use these headphones. They were cheap, but they're very good value for money and because they're wireless my head is totally free to move without obstruction (which I tend to do a lot when racing). I occasionally use my speakers (Logitech Z-560s) but I do a lot of my driving at night and I don't think the rest of the family would appreciate a rumbling V8 or screaming F1 engine as much as I do

i like headphones for first person shooters. and speakers for racing simulators :p

10 dollar headphones FTW :D

i wish i had some expensive cool headphones :p
i had on headphones when i clicked the link so i guess they get my vote...

nvm i'm voting speakers :p

I rarely play games on the PC, except for Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge; but I went ahead and bought a nice 2.1 speaker system which cost me around 30€ (vs. 15€ for the crap ones). But since the PC is next to the TV, I had to buy myself some headphones which aren't really a big deal (TDK MP100) but sound alright.

Funny thing when buying headphones. The prices vary from 10€ to 400€. But Below 50€ there are only 3 models, the 10€ one a 35€ and a 45€ one. I was looking to spend less than 50€, but the 45€ ones were some obscure brand and looked to be made out of balsa wood... so I got these.

End of pointless story.

Not exactly the sturdiest in the world, but they rock when it comes to sound quality. Mic is already ruined (too many times of the cord being run over by my chair wheels). The vibration is hardly used because when it is idle it emits a whirring sound which annoys me to no end. Overall, it really helps when playing CS:S. You can hear alot of things you cant hear with speakers. Plus, you don't disturb anyone else while playing.

Speakers.

2 Standard generic Computer speakers... with the plastic bits removed, and the wires cut.
2 Gigantic Fisher rear speakers, they're about 2 feet high by a foot wide.
1 Kicker 10" L7 Solo Baric sub. Ment for a car. :)
All running through a 1970's JVC Receiver, even has anolog Power gauges.

MisatX ^^ got pics? i used to have "ghetto surround sound", but then i finally got rid of all my stuff. do u have a box full of extra wires hanging around your room? lol. i do.

I'll get pictures tomorrow or something. I used a crapload of spliced wires, and I've only got about 2 sets left. :)

HD650's running through an old marantz reciever.

But, my dad has a karmon hard-on 2.1 system.

Its gotta be speakers everytime! Puck the neighbours! :sly: I have my PC hooked up to my stereo, and usually have it set at least half way up, no less, or it isn't fun! :D

Speakers. Logitech's 500W Z-680s. Perfect for loud explosions that go boom and music. I am looking for a great set of headphones though. Not sure what companies to look at but I haven't put much effort into since I don't have much time on my hands.

A set of Philips surround-sound speakers I bought from work. They were grey stock, so they cost a fraction of retail - €10 or something. Better than the cruddy speakers that came with my old PC that I was using. edit: Grey stock, meaning scratched or superficially damaged, not semi-legal imported goods.

KM.

Both. I have the Altec Lansing MX5021 2.1 speakers I use during the day, and then for late nights I have my Sennheiser HD555's (which actually cost more than the damn speakers!).

As much as I love the right-in-the-middle-of-things feel of the cans, I'd have to go with speakers though, seeing as I use them more often.

I use my headphones mainly for listening to music and for several games (e.g. F.E.A.R. and Doom 3). You can't hear everything with speakers when paying those types of games so a headphone is perfect. But for racing games wich i play alot i use my speakers (5.1). You should try playing GTR or GT Legends with surround sound speakers cranked. It's incredible.

Headphones: Sennheiser HD280 Pro's
Speakers: M:Audio Studiophile BX5's (run through an M:Audio Audiophile2496).

Which I use depends on wether I'm trying not to disturb my flatmates or not. The speakers were bought for music production, but are more than adequate for gaming. 👍

I like my surround speakers more, but I use my headphones for music and sometimes gaming at night if the folks are sleeping.

Speakers: Logitech Z-5500 5.1
Headphones: Technics RPDJ-1200

The only speakers that would probably be a bit better than mine are the Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 or the Creative Gigaworks 7.1, but they're both a bit more expensive and prolly not that much better (if better at all).

The Klipsche sub is a tab more crisp, but also a tad less powerful. The Gigaworks system, even though more powerful, is horrible quality. Read the reviews on newegg.com There's lots of reports of the sub failing after a very short time (< one year), not to mention that very few games/movies support 7.1 if any.

...and they just broke down right now.

damnit...now i need a new pair.

any suggestions?
not too cheap, not too expensive (around 50 bucks!?)
i'm no geek in this area, my mp3s are all encoded in 128 since i don't hear any difference anyway, but i'd like the sound to be clear even at high volume (rock/metal) and they should have some nice bass.

I use two sets of speakers .

Logitech Z-5300e and Altec lansing 2.1 speaker system.

Both work really great and the Altec lansing was a good buy for the money:)
The logitech speakers obviously sound better especially with all that BASS:dopey:

I never use headphones. Even at night. Thats the way I roll:sly: 👍

I posted this in the HDMI 1.3 thread, but for those that use headphones, I strongly recommend getting a display, pre-amp processor, or receiver that has Dolby Headphone support! It's absolutely amazing, and provides astonishingly realistic multi-channel effects without all the acoustical problems that a multi-channel speaker system has to deal with. 👍
