Heh, Peter shares a lot in common with Frank Williams. Also goes to show that the sport is the team first, not the driver - Peter has obviously taken the decision to go for the sponsor money and secure his team's future (though Perez is decent, but two inexperienced drivers in such a team is a little questionable).
Shame though as Nick really deserves a proper go, although we will see in the following races whether he's up for it still or not.

I can't believe we are here seeing Nick trying to save his career yet again, after his tenure with Jordan, you would have thought people would give him a better chance. Quickly turning into the new Brundle, never won a race and constantly having to save his career as no one seems willing to give him a proper go at it. And when they do, all the luck appears to go against them (Brundle at Tyrrell and Benetton, Nick at BMW Sauber).

At first I thought they were simply signing him to the team as another drive, similar to how Hispania has 4 drivers on the go.

But if Peter Sauber said in his own words 'Driver pairing', then that settles that matter, Sauber don't intend to keep Heidfeld on next year, which is disappointing. But:

The manager of Sauber driver Nick Heidfeld is confident the German will find a race seat for next season despite the news that his place in the team will be taken by Mexican Sergio Perez in 2011.

"There are still cockpits available in F1 for next season," said Heidfeld's manager Andre Theuerzeit. "At the moment we are in negotiations and we are confident there will be a positive outcome." (German news agency, SID)

Force India could be a possibility if Liuzzi doesn't stay and Di Resta stays in DTM. But I have my doubts as to whether it will be a potential race winning car next season (Not even at Spa). The Renault seat is another possibility if Raikkonen decides to remain in WRC and Petrov screws up the next few races. But apart from those two... How about the Torro Rosso seats? I wouldn't know about them, the BBC never mentions them.

Yeah, Force India don't look so good for the following seasons thanks to most of their key staff moving to Lotus....Di Resta and Heidfeld sounds a nice line-up though.

But Renault could be a possibility still too. Or even Toro Rosso for a real twist (if Buemi or Alguesuari go to Renault).

Edited my post whilst you were replying, looks like we're thinking along the same lines :p

But where would Sutil go...?

Renault. The whole driver market is focused mostly around the 2nd seat at Renault, as they are potential championship contenders in future. After that seat is sorted, the rest of the market will sort itself out.

Having just posted the latest news in the Lotus thread, maybe Lotus is where Nick is headed? There appears to be quite some momentum behind that team right now and replacing the supposed retiring Trulli with Heidfeld would be an inspired choice!

I thought that Toro Rosso have already secured their 2011 drivers by retaining their current line up?

Well I didn't expect Nick to stay racing for Sauber next year, because for sure the team really needs some money since they have yet to secure any title sponsor (apart from which we heard he already secured one for next year). Sauber is quite popular for bringing in new talents anyway like Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa for example...

As you guys said, it's either him going to Renault or Force India. Even going to Lotus if quite a big chance for him is Trulli decides to retire!

I'd rather see Senna get in a faster car, unless HRT has a few tracks up their sleeve for 2011. Surely the half a mil per race they've gotten from Yamamoto is helping out with the 201 car. But Lotus are really looking to make a huge jump up no the grid next year. Maybe Lotus will reach what Sauber is now?

About the Heidfield thing, I would've said Mercedes, but I remembered that Michael is staying on the Mercedes train for next year. Maybe he'll just be the reserve driver at Sauber. I don't think he's Force India material, I'd rather see Chandkok get in there.
