Hi GTP,

I just started to play GT1 on PS1 again, played it in the past for a month or two. To inform you, I know >Nothing< about cars, or about this game. I'm a complete retard on this subject. :D
So when I started I bought some random car from the "Used cars" for ~8.500 CR. I did some races (only mini autumn ring cause my car was to slow :p), and saved up a bit. Then I discovered the Sunday-cup and did some races there. I earned 26.000 CR and bought me a Chevrolet with it, 286 hp I think.
With this car the Sunday-cup was easy so I saved up again and bought me a Viper, 440hp. Now after this probably boring story, I have some questions.
When I want to tune my car I can only take "Stage 1" of alot of things, and I can't even take alot of things. Why is that?
What do I have to do now? Save up for one of those special models? Wich races?
Thanks in advance.

.P.S. I have A and B license.

EDIT: Oh by the way, in wich mode do you play? That you see your car or that you don't?

I'm not sure why this is, but this is the case with loads of cars in GT1. However, what I do know is that it is nothing to do with what lincences you have. You could have an I-A licence and it would not make any difference!

Well the license does have its uses. Some leagues/races need a certain license requirement to enter the race. By doing the license, you will get to improve on your driving skills as well and if you try hard enough (by getting all gold) you will get a special car as well! I don't really know what your saying about the "stage 1" parts, but i think you should just move onto another event and move on in the game. But if you ever, ever want to ask anything, please check this threads out before asking, it will save you all the trouble asking (as well as helping the mods :))

By the way, welcome to GTP, NoInspiration. :)

Yes, that is the case.

I would recommend trying for your I-A license as well, so you can enter that Viper, providing it isn't tuned at all, and you can enter the Normal Car World Speed Contest. They pay 50,000 Cr. for each victory, 10,000 Cr. for pole, and the championship bonus is a cool 100,000 Cr. There are 5 races, and you spend less money than most races for a car because you have to enter it as is.

You need to be skilled, though. Beware.

That's okay. Knowledge of cars and racing helps in this game, but I've seen plenty of non-informed folks "get it" in the long run.

Awesome. You're not in a rush. 👍 This is how I did it...I think I spent a couple weeks just doing Spot Races and Sunday Cups in the beginning, just to get used to the game. It's fun isn't it?

Actually, it can only take a Stage 1 NA (naturally-aspirated) tune. You should have access to everything else (full-custom suspension, transmission, etc). A viper (as well as Camaros and Vettes) will not be able to accept turbos. I think Camaros can only accept 2 NA tunes..uh...I forget what the Corvette takes.

I'm guessing this. Since GT1 was the first game in the Gt series, and it only has a handful of American cars, perhaps Polyphony Digital was not fully informed that Viper engines can accept more power. By the time Gt1 was released, the Viper had been in production for several years, so Dodge must have been officially racing in some respects and therefore MOPAR should have had some official power-ups on the shelves for their real-life cars.

But I'm just guessing. In any event, a Viper should be able to accept more power than it does in GT1, but my guess (as I said) was that PD didn't know exactly what these power-upgrades were about yet, and didn't want to misrepresent Dodge/MOPAR with inaccurate modeling. In later games, Vipers get more power.

What do I have to do now? Save up for one of those special models? Wich races?

Actually, you may find that a Viper with no engine upgrades (except computer, port/polishing, and balancing) can tackle many many races once you get good at the game. The Stage 1 NA kit makes it incredibly difficult to drive unless you've got a race-kit. Once you've got the race kit (the one that costs about $80,000 and puts decals all over your car and stuff) Stage 1 becomes easier to handle.

Also: you may find that the "special" model Vipers aren't as good as a stock GTS with a race kit. The GTS winds up several hundred pounds lighter than the prize Viper you can win.

.P.S. I have A and B license.

EDIT: Oh by the way, in wich mode do you play? That you see your car or that you don't?

GT1: I got in the habit early of driving so that I see my car as I drive it. I forget if there's 1 view or 2 for this...but if there's 2, I liked using the smaller one.

GT2: I used the smaller full-car view. Helps with drifting and seeing where other cars are around you as you race (so you can avoid them smacking into you).

GT3: Bumper view. The full-car view is too large in this game...

GT4: Hood view. But I often switch from hood to bumper to full-car view nowadays.

Actually, an A license is sufficient to enter the Normal Car World Speed Contest. With a little practice, it's a walkover in either Viper.

With the IA license you can enter the Hard-Tuned Car Speed Contest, which requires tuning. A tuned Viper ends up being a walkover in that too, but only after a lot more practice.

I was talking about the tuning thing. It does not matter what licence you have, you won't be able to get a NA 2 or above for that car!
