You're going to get a wide variety of answers about this here, but let me sum them all up.

It depends.

Experiment a little. Find your comfort zone and learn consistency. I've always used the default button settings on my DS3, and I'm pretty competitive doing so. Find what works for you.

Pro vs noob braking

Thanks mr mclaren. Not the first time you helped me out lol. Bit of a noob on the forum. All advice is very much appreciated

I suggest you'd get a lot more 'feel' using the analogues right forward for accelerator and rear for brake and left L/R for steering.

However whatever you use you can get a lot of help with braking if you change the settings. I use a higher front brake setting and a lower rear, so a MR car may be 7-3 and a FR 8-2. I tune each car so I get stable braking on a slight curve. I find the default 5-5 setting breaks the back away too easily on almost all cars.

The alfa c8 is a bit of a dog to handle, will give your settings a try. Managed gold on all 3 vettel races so a bit miffed with this challange. 1,17.274. Wnt give up though. Thanks byegad

I just love the Alfa C8. Tuned to exactly 500pp it earns me a fortune at the challenges.

Jst double checking. Im talking about the eifel nord challange in the grand tour section. Im asking because you said you use it to make money where as i cnt wait to never have to drive it again after this challange lol. Lovely looking car though
