Guys, could really do with some suggestions here. I'm on my second copy of GT6 as I thought I might have a corrupt copy, now I'm sure I don't as the same things are happening.
1.I can't complete the last 15 min race at the ring the game and the wheel just lock up about 30 to 40 seconds in (depending which car I use) but always at the same point of the track. Have to force start the system
2. Can't complete the fighting muscle at Eiger Nordwand, game freezes after the first flag sweeps across the start screen, have to force start.
3. Can't complete race 4 Group GT3 series nurburgring GP/F, as as soon as I get to the first bend the track disappears and the screen goes glitchy and all pretty geometric colours of the rainbow.
4. Can't complete GT World championship Nurburgring 24h. Although the track disappears still at the first bend I can get through that bit, right to where it locks on the 15 minute race. It then freezes and locks in the exact same place.
There are other little things that happen like track disappearing at the nurburgring GP/F and Nordschleife
Haven't been able to do a lap at Fuji speedway either, freezes after the first flag sweep.
These things happen in free run mode also, Eiger freezes after first flag sweep, track at the ring disappears, Fuji freezes after first flag sweep, you get the idea?
I have a PS3 slim, GT5 and 6 are the only games that have been played on the system, it's in a well vented area
Just tried Eiger in Arcade mode Freezes after first flag sweep on start screen, had to force start PS3. Man this is doing my head in :banghead:

Have you done a HDD reformat ????

Something is going wrong with your HDD, or your BD player has problems reading the disk as well. !!!!!
Thanks for your reply, I have not done a HDD format, to be honest I wouldn't have a clue where to start. I take it I'd have to save my game data to usb?

Do you have an archived game save? I've seen them get corrupted.

Either way, maybe backup your save to USB, then try starting fresh, to see if problem persists. Probably still less time consuming than an hdd format.

Also did not see if you mentioned deleting and reinstalling game data, would try that as well, before anything with hard drive.

I don't know if my game save is archived I'm really not very good at this stuff, but I have another account that I could start a fresh on
Haven't deleted and reinstalled game data, once again wouldn't know where to start without messing things up

Just back up your current save to USB, then delete it of your ps3. That will let you start fresh on your current account. If that's not the problem, you can restore save from your USB.

Might even try new game data before the save. Go into game data utility on xmb, gt6, press triangle in folder and select delete. Will take the time to download updates and install game again.

Before you go so drastic as a full HDD reformat, I'd suggest going into Recovery Mode on PS3, and choose Restore File System, and/or Rebuild Database. The only things you'll lose are any custom music playlists (the actual files are safe, and will not be deleted) and your PSN messages.

Restore File system is much like defragging a HDD on a PC. Only takes about five minutes. I do mine about once a month. If trophy sync takes a while, or the XMB bar is sluggish, thats most likely the culprit. It's worked wonders for me, GTAV is pretty bad about corrupting it.

To enter Recovery menu:

1) Turn off the PS3 using the power button.
2) Next, hold down the power button, allowing the console to power up, keep holding it until it shuts back off.
3) Hold down power button again. You'll soon hear one beep, followed by 2 quick beeps. Release power button right after double-beep.
4) Follow the on-screen instructions. DO NOT CHOOSE OPTION #5 WITHOUT BACKUPS, YOU WILL LOSE EVERYTHING.

You can google a more detailed run-through of the process pretty easily. But, I'm the worst kind of internet-er.... The lazy kind.

Hopefully this helps.

He's started a private convo with me, we're working on his game save and data. This looks like a very logical next step, thanks!

Not a problem. That process has saved me from many :banghead: situations.

Hallo, i am back.

A good move, is doing it like transpaqua say, and maybe your problems will be solved.

But, Those are very nasty things.

a) I can't complete the last 15 min race
b) game freezes after the first flag sweeps across the start screen,
c) as as soon as I get to the first bend the track disappears and the screen goes glitchy and all pretty
geometric colours of the rainbow.
d) Although the track disappears still at the first bend I can get through that bit, right to where it locks
on the 15 minute race. It then freezes and locks in the exact same place.

If you get the same errors, you should backup all your stuff, and do a clean format.
If the problem persist, i advise you to check the read/write BR player for any problem.

----------------

Do you have on GT5 the exact same problem ????
You could try other games except those two.

I did the file restore as per instructions and went back to the game, there is no change I still get the same problems. I played GT5 right up until release date of 6 I have never had any problems with it. I've also just given GT5 a run and it's all good.
Does the ps3 not do a file restore every time I have to force close/start the system?
Anyways I'm now stumped and at your mercy again
Just done a rebuild database still no joy. Don't have big enough external memory at the moment to be able to do a full back up and format, I have a big ole external HDD but the PS won't recognise it
I have just put the ps back together after cleaning the blu ray and cd lenses, I still have the same problems, I was sure that would cure it but as mark said earlier, the problems I am getting are quite nasty, I'm wondering if Amazon had a bad batch as I'm on my second copy from them, so apart from a format I think I've tried everything

Could you try please the game on another friends PS3 ????
That should help a lot . !!!!!

Hopefully I'll do this later or tomorrow.
Do you have stores hear you that rent games? You could always go rent a copy to see if it's giving you the same issue. The idea of putting it on a friends PS3 is not a bad one, but if it works OK on the friends console it would still only tell you that the disk is OK.

Also want to be clear whether you were able to delete the Game Data from your console. I know you backed up your save and started the game from scratch, and it was still broken. But not sure if you deleted the game data and reinstalled the game updates?

A bit more detail than I was able to give on phone -

  • Game Column on XMB
  • "Game Data Utility" folder, toward the top of the list. Not to be confused with "Saved Data Utility". They are 2 different things.
  • Gran Turismo 6 will be on the list. Press Triangle, "Delete" is an option. Delete the data.
  • Once you delete the data, the system will reinstall the base version of the game AND download any updates when you start GT6 again.
  • As an alternative, it might be worthwhile to try starting the game with your PS3 offline, to see if you have the same issue in version 1.00.
Finally, if you've done all of this, and are considering the HDD format. The only data you'll need to back up are your "Saved Data" (Gamesaves) and any music or photos that you have on the console and want to keep. You don't need to backup game data, the console will just reinstall that when you start the game. So you should be able to fit everything on your thumb drive.

Yes, that's a good advice too - renting one. !!!!!!

If the same happens, do it like EDK say. Saving and formatting.

I'm curious what will happen. !!!!

Right so here's the thing. deleted game saves Booted up and signed out. Loaded the game without signing in, game played perfect. Signed back in, downloaded updates. Installed updates, I then got a black screen and the ps locked out force closed it booted back up went straight to one of the offending challenges and bingo alls good the track is complete no awful glitches. I'm going to try the others but it's looking good so far. I don't know if you can deduce what was to Blame from the info, I've tried to work it out but started to get a headache so I gave up, it shouldn't take me long to try these so ill post back shortly. Meanwhile thanks so much!!! I'd still be scratching my head

It's likely that your game data was corrupted. It might have been one of the updates, but it could have even been the original game data installation.

Glad it seems to be working for you now, always happy to help. 👍

Happy new Year 2014 then.!!!!

Just one thing! Gone into my garage and all the pictures of the cars are gone. 106 to update:banghead:
If you press the "Select" button while in the garage, you can tick the boxes for multiple cars (Or all cars) and do a mass update. You don't have to do them one at a time.
