Ok so finally I am able to drift pretty consistently with a wheel. My own problem is, I get too much angle. Normally that wouldn't be a problem but when I tandem, it becomes a problem because I end up going too slow. When i try to decrease my angle on the drifts, my front tires tend to grip and I end up going where the wheels are pointing (into the grass). I counter this effect by adding gas to keep the slide going. What I want to ask, does anyone have a setup that reduces even more grip in the front? But I don't want too much grip gone since I use weight transfer to initiate a drift and I need my fronts to have a decent amount of grip to do that. I only want slightly less. (suspension probably, I'm no good at adjusting my suspension settings) I know that this is the problem because when I have comfort mediums in the back and hards i the front, I turn into a pro but I want drift like a pro with hards only!

I drift a '07 Nissan Skyline Coupe with 425 HP and Comfort Hard tires. All weight reductions mods have be used.

I do want tips only from Wheel Drifters and not controller drifters because this sort of thing does not apply to anyone who uses a controller.

Keep your throttle correspondent with your steering and angle, try and keep the throttle as smooth as possible, instead of abrupt 100%-on 100%-off uses.

This is the root of almost all problems when you are first learning. Besides steering work.

I don't put full throttle very often, only when I start a drift, and I don't turn my wheel All the way to one side. Is it mostly my driving or is it the car? After trying it some more just now, I'm starting to think its me.

Full throttle everywhere LOL, once I get to the apex of a corner in a drift, assuming my speed and line are right, I try to make sure I never lift :D More throttle = more smoke and, because of the extra wheelspin, the ability to get more angle, which therefore gives you the best chances of doing well once a judge is scoring you. :)

In answer to your initial question about too much angle, if the car is going into too deep an angle, don't take grip away from the front with setup changes, simply get the opposite lock on slightly faster to get the slide under control before it goes too far, fairly simple :)

it sounds like your drifting totaly 4wd. (as in the ctr diff balance is like 50/50)

07 skyline isn't 4wd ;)

sounds like your gearing is too short imo, when you gear the car for drifting your trying to make the gears as long as possible, and still be able to spin the tires easily when broken lose, the longer gears will give you more throttle to play with in the drift, and will improve control while drifting. when i'm drifting, my throttle will vary in the drift depending on the drift, some drifts i'm holding between 4.5k-9k, others i might be higher, or even lower depending on the car, it really depends on the car, and your style.

Hey Ice Yeah yeah i know im only controller now but my wheel will be up and running soon. However my ways are just like Twins, Feather it as much as possible till the apex and then open up the throttle and let them roast, for a "faster" exit speed i find. Great for corners with late apexs. And yes with a controller its easier But I like to react quicker with the steering so it doesn't slide out to far to bring it back up to speed. Anyway take it or leave it its my 2 cents

Hey ice
I would think grip in the front tyres would be your friend I can't understand why you would reduce it like the other guys said throttle control is a major factor in getting your car round the corner smoothly.
With your inertia drifts countersteer quickly and adjust accordingly I never hit full throttle untill I can see the exit of the corner
I know it's probably not much help because this is what everybody else has said but this how I drift with the wheel.
Good luck

The Nissan coupe doesn't have enough power to spin up higher gears anyway, mine is only geared for 150mph and still struggles to spin up 4th gear, it's nothing to do with gearing being too short, because you can always upshift. He is asking about how to stop the angle getting to big, which is nothing to do with gearing :)

It would be easier if I could just post a video of my drifting but I don't have a capture card. But at first my car has a good angle for speed but then if I dont add more gas the front will grip and mess me up. So i feather the gas ad give it a bit more angle to make sure that doesnt happen but it sort of forces me to get insane angle but not a lot of speed.

i think its just your reaction, maybe you need to be a bit snappier when it come to counter steering and your just have to balance the throttle just right.

Yo man add me on PSN ive got great awd suspension setups. My PSN is my name and its with two i's at the end hope to help out and yes i drift with a wheel.

I was having this same problem about a week ago. I don't anymore just by practising.

I don't think anyone can really tell you how to not do it. I think you just need to learn your car a bit better, and practise drifting a bit more.
