Hello all. I got some big help my last couple of posts so I wanted to see how much help I could get with this request. I'm lookin for my next car purchase and I'd love a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo. Doesn't matter what gen or color, but I'd like it to be pretty bone stock. I'm not lookin to spend over $10k if I don't have to and less than 115k miles would be sweet too, but I know that's a tall order. I'm from South Jersey and I have the hardest time finding any Evo's for sale let alone ones that I could potentially buy. Any and all help would be appreciated!

As a side note, I know probably all of them are anyway, but I'd like a 6-speed. Thank you again.

Like CDaily said, use All of Craigs to search nationwide.

If I remember correctly, for US Evo VIII and IX, the 6 speed is only offered in the MR trim. The non-MRs come in a 5 speed. So essentially, if you want the 6 speed, then you're looking for an Evo MR. Yeah, good luck on that.

But really, 10k for an Evo, even a base one, would be an extremely tall order, at least for one that hasn't been beaten to hell and back or one that doesn't have a salvage title.

If you lived in the UK, you'd be tripping all over used Evo II and III's all day, easily for under $10 grand. But we didn't start getting the Evo until the VIII. So they're still pretty expensive. A cheap one would be in the upper teens.

I'm immensely doubtful that you could find an Evo for less than $15k. 10 is basically fantasy land.

You definately can find an evo for about 10k or less. But any example you find for under 15k is going to be a high mileage, heavily thrashed and most likey going to blow real soon.

If I were you I would wait another year or so and save more and get a mint one with lower miles. I know how much it sucks to hear but I'm in the same boat as you and from nj as well. My budget is around 12k for newer car and from what I have seen, they're all garbage once the price goes lower than 15k.

This. Right here. You'd be pretty lucky to find a well-worn VII for anywhere near $15K, and even then, it is a stretch.

Although all of this ignores the elephant in the room; The VW R32.

During my current car search finding an EVO is next to impossible for $15,000 and less than 75k miles.

I've tried to find a saloon WRX too with the same criteria...no luck.

I goofed with the 6-speed, so I apologize for that. Thanks for all of your responses. I figured this was rather difficult coming into this post. I see know that my goal is a bit lofty and will have to wait. I'll be stickin with my Camaro V8 search then!

i just found an evo, looks like a VIII with 43k miles for $3300 dollars on craigslist...

this is too good to be true

edit- the seller only gives pictures of the car, their name and an email address to contact them. nothing else. does this seem really skecthy, or should i jump on it???

That's a scam.

If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.

You've answered your own question even before you asked it.

If that really is a dealer, then they posted a really low price to get you to look at the ad then give you the real price as soon as you walk in the door. If that's not a dealer, then it's a scam.

You'll see ads like this on Craigslist a lot. They are typically new-ish cars that are selling for $3000 to $4000, way too low of a price. I see it in my local Craigslist, they typically get flagged pretty quickly though.

It's your choice to email them or not about the car, but they are probably going to say that they'll need to ship the car to you, or that you have to send them some fee, or make up some ridiculous story. Tread very carefully.

Honestly, best "bang for your buck" car in my opinion (and I'm biased because I own one now) is the S2000. You probably will not be able to find a good condition Evo for $10k, but you could maybe find a 2001-2003 S2000 with decent miles for around that cost. I'd also trust a high mileage NA honda over high mileage turbo'ed Mitsubishi.
