My Mondeo will be 18 y.o next week without any problems so far (knock knock on wood). I think it is time to consider another car, not as a replacement though. Normally I don't ask these questions and decide for myself but seeing that I'm not the only one doing it, so why not get information from knowledgable petrol heads.

As you all know, probably, I'm a huge 911 fan and I think, if I can justify giving that kind of money on a car, I'm going to buy a 911 (maybe).

I have to decide what I want and if possible get information from you guys which would be the best choice.

My two choices are;

  1. Porsche 991.2 GTS. The GTS is in a Porsche Center and Porsche approved.
  2. Porsche 992 C2 as I want it. Both are around the same price. Independent Porsche dealer with a huge discount is where I would go for a new car.
I always wanted a GTS and these cars hold their value better than a standard 992. But the 992 is such a beautiful car. Fiscally, the 992 is literally much more expensive than a second hand GTS. From next year fiscality will be even more expensive for new cars because the government is going to use the WLTP instead of NEDC. For second-hand cars, this doesn't matter.

Oh, oh, oh, what shall I do? I don't know the advantages/disadvantages of both cars.

I'm curious if I am going to get some good advice. And more importantly, if I finally going to buy my dream car.

Wow, going from a 2002 Mondeo to an new 911 is quite the upgrade! Personally speaking, I’d go with the 991 GTS. Not only will it be less expensive than an all new 992, I personally think it’s better looking (the 992) is a little too bloated for my taste, yet still has all the power and features of a brand new 911. Either way you’re going to end up with a car that’s far nicer than 99% of what’s on the road.

I don't find the 992 to be very attractive, especially from the rear. The interior looks cooler though. I'd say either 991 GTS (preferably a targa!) or a new 718 Spyder.

It is a Ford Mondeo ST220. So not your basic simple Mondeo.

I actually like the way the new 992 looks. Especially the front end and the new dashboard.

Have you also considered a pre-facelift 991 Turbo? Those are quite powerful. And do you have a maximum price range?

No, I haven't. I'm not interested in a Turbo version.
And do you have a maximum price range?
Yes, as cheap as possible. :sly:

I have a problem with spending a lot of money on a car. I need to be able to justify spending so much money. I'm getting there but I'm not quite ready. Maybe it's not time the get a Porsche? Maybe I will never be?!

Austin Healey Frogeye. Wait, that wasn't an option was it? What were the options? 991 or 992? Okay, I choose... Austin Healey Frogeye.

Sorry :D honestly the older one. For me every new generation gets worse and more expensive. If I had to buy a Porsche I'd buy a facelift 996

AUSTIN HEALEY FROGEYE! DO IT!

What do you think of this one?

A white 991.2 C4 for €78,000 ($91,642, £70,219) but without Chrono

Is that more or less than the original two that you referred to in your first post?

Personally, I think you should go with a 991.2. The interior in the 992 doesn't look like its changed too much since the 991, and personally I think the 991.2 looks a bit less bloated.

The 991 should be a bit cheaper than the 992, so that should help a bit with your aversion to spending a lot of money on a car.

If there are two different 991.2's that you are looking at, which one has less mileage? Which colour do you prefer (if they are different colours)? Go inspect both, which one looks to be in better condition?

If there aren't two different 991.2's then I'll feel a bit silly, but also go with that one.

Thank you all for your input.

I like both models, 991.2 and the 992. The front end of the 992 looks a lot like the original Carrera models. The overall design is more like the 993. So I prefer the front end/interior of the 992 and the overall look of the 991.2.

These are the ones I found that are very interesting.
I normally make my mind up all by myself and never need other people to help but because we are talking about a very huge amount of money, I want to make the correct choice, so please which one would you choose? The GTS's that cost more than €110,000 is actually a little bit too expensive unless they are worth it. The last one, that I want to see is a standard C4 and I don't like C4's. But this one is so cheap and that is why I include it.

No it is not. It is the one I went to see one and a half week ago. It is a nice car and it looks good in the flesh even though it is white. I don't "feel" this car but it is very cheap and makes it interesting. What I don't like is the lack of the Chrono package and it is a basic model. 4-wheel drive is certainly not what I prefer. You don't need it over here.

From those that you've listed, my number 1 pick would be:
https://www.powercars.be/aanbod/wagen/id/2061/991-4GTS
I think that one looks to be in the best condition, is slightly cheaper than some of the others and has decent mileage

If you wanted a cheaper one, this would be my pick (although it might just be the colour that's appealing to me)

From the more expensive options, I would have this one:
https://www.autoscout24.be/nl/aanbo...-be74-846d2abe2bb9?cldtidx=1&cldtsrc=listPage
It does have worse mileage but looks like its in better condition, particularly the interior.

Followed by this one:

I think the red looks a bit weird around the taillights. You could argue this is much better value considering the mileage, but when you have less than 50,000km, I'm not sure it matters that much.

Thanks for the help!

What about this one, the cheaper one? I could get this one for €75,000 but has high mileage.

And this one looks okay to me, only the interior has the wrong color combination.

At the end, I'm the one that has to decide but I'm stuck and don't know what to do.

I went to see this one yesterday and it is a gorgeous car. Really beautiful nightblue, very clean and those wheels look better than I thought.

If you are ok with the higher mileage than I think it could be a good option. Is it a lower model then the others? Doesn't look like the GTS based off the ad.

I do think the silver exterior and cream interior clash on that second one, but if you can get passed that, it's definitely a good option and Porsche approved.

Of those are your final three options, you've narrowed it down to some very nice looking cars!

The first link, the white one is a 991.2 C4 (370 hp version). I told the guy today that I'm not going to buy his Porsche. There is something about that car that puts me off, although the car is perfectly fine and is the owner. Good guy and very honest.

I still have other option to consider. I'm probably going to wait and think about so long that every available option is going to be sold.

I'm currently at that stage, was looking for a very specific car in a very specific condition since the start of the year. Let a few slip between the cracks because of location (I was too slow in planning how I would travel to look at the car), or small nit picks like not having the history of the car or too many modifications. Then the pandemic unpredictably ruined the used car market, so now there are far fewer cars for sale, and the ones that are for sale are at a substantially inflated price which has left me regretting my decision to not buy one earlier.

Having said that, if a car puts you off like that white one did, I think you made the correct decision to decide not to buy. Always better to save your money, then to find out that you have to pay even more to get the car working properly.

I think so too.
