  • Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition - English
  • Pentium 4 Processor 2.60GHz + 400 System Bus Upgrade
  • 512MB PC2700 DDR (1x512M) Upgrade
  • 40GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive

  • ATI RADEON 9200 128MB Video Card
  • Win 104 Key PS/2 Keyboard Black - English
  • Optical Mouse - Black
  • Microsoft Works 7.0 - English

All this for a grand total of $1,489.98 or for the same price an 12" iBook G4.

It's actually a base Cicero for #$399.99, then with customized options from the store. I'm in Canada, so that's why it's in Canadian currency.

Built Here

Such low-buck computer brands (we have eMachines here in the US) are notorius for frying their power supplies, mobos, etc.

You don't get the speed that you paid for.

I have had good luck with 2 Micron computers. Dells are also fairly cheap.

But wouldn't that count as building? I'm getting a base computer, then picking the stuff I want in it.

Would that be better or the Macintosh iBook G4? :dopey:

I just checked out on Futureshop.ca if I built it myself, with all the parts bought individually with a 15" LCD Monitor it would be $400 less then buying that Cicero with mods.

Recently I configured a AMD-based 2700XP (I think) system that cost under $1100 US, had a 160 Gig HD, ATI 9600, and 512 Meg RAM. It also had a heavy-duty heatsink and mobo that were ripe for overclocking.

I'm not sure what point you are trying to make with that $400 difference, but I think you can do better for your money.

I'd be happy to look around my desk for that configuration, if you care to see it.

That is a pretty good computer, for the price your paying for. I'd buy it! 👍 :)

Are you by any chance getting computer ready for HL2?

Of course not, I don't game. :dopey:

If you got the extra cash , you should get an alienware.
I have an Alienware Area51-m laptop, in a word, it is a POS.

Its not as fast as it should be for the specs/price, and it overheats.

skip, do you think an Apple iBook G4 would be better? I can't afford an Alienware PC, nothing more than $1400.

For $890 USD/$1,177 CAD I just recently got a new Dell Dimension 4600.

2.8 Ghz
512 Mb Memory
80 Gb Hard-drive
DVD CD/RW 50X Read 42XWrite
17'' HRT Moniter (which i prefer over TFT)
Dell Keyboard and Optical Mouse
2 Dell Minispeakers

Then im using a Creative SB Live Surround card, NVIDIA GF4 Ti4200 card, 2 Harman/Kardon front speakers and 1 Harman/Kardon Subwoofer that I already have. Oh yeah and the Broadband connection and modem that I already had. But for that amount of money, I thought I got a lot.

P.S. This is my second (lower spec.) pc that's in my bedroom apposed to the higher spec one that's in my study.

just a week ago, I built the following for a friend:

Athlonxp 2500+
512mb 400mhz ddr ram (OCZ)
Asus A7n8x-x mobo
Soundblaster live 5.1
Asus Radeon 9600 SE 128mb ram
Western Digital HD - 80gb w/8mb cache
Lite-On SOHW-812s DVD burner (dual layer capable with firmware hack - saves $30)
17 inch LG Monitor

The full package (wireless equipment for his whole house, speakers, monitor included) and the 15% taxes included cost something like $1300 canadian (I'll have to check the invoice).

take out the wireless and speakers and you shave a good $300 off the final cost of the machine - that can be used in getting a radeon 9600XT and a slightly faster processor - or a Mobile Athlon XP 2500+ with cooling equipment.

He needs a monitor, LCD prefibly.

Here's what we'll do. You'll send the money to me in US dollars, I'll build a system from NewEgg and then ship it to you. 💡

Honestly, if I had a friend in Canada, and a car, that's what I'd do. I'd then skip the shipping and drive over there, except I don't have a car... :grumpy:

There's a store just a few blocks from my place - their prices are comparable to NewEgg :)

If you're serious Sunny, msg me and we can arrange something. Shipping to your town from Toronto won't be as expensive as from the US (Expect like $80 or so...probably $100 with insurance)

I'm really starting to not think of a desktop anymore, I'm also considering space, I need space, so laptops come into the picture. In other words, 12" iBook G4.

Get a Mac!

It'll suck.

Then I'll laugh.

Hard.

In all honesty, a mac laptop, though kickass to have, won't be as useful as a slim profile Intel based laptop running Linux with a GNOME window manager. The GNOME allows you to get a mac feel out of the thing and linux just rules

Hard.

I've brought it down to these two.
