Help me decide on a laptop!

Well...I'll start by saying Compaq is evil and I've had terrible experiences with compaq built desktops.

I've never heard of Avaratec so compaq is probably your best bet between the two.

Also, check www.ultinet.ca for custom laptops. The company is supposed to be pretty good overall

forgot to add, i've got a couple friends with Compaq laptops. They have their fair share of complaints but overall, they like the laptops a lot.

Also, I hate to say this, but go for an intel based laptop. Battery life on the Athlon Mobility's is not nearly as good unfortunately.
 
I don't mind low battery life, I'll have it plugged it it's charger most of the time, unless of course I'm on the move which isn't going to be every minute. If the Compaq's have merged with HP then, I'd admit, I'd rather get that, but I'd also take the Averatec, but it does not have a good graphics card. But on the other hand the Compaq does not have a CDRW, yet the other one does, I'll still have my desktop to burn cds and play games on so no worries.


I have a question what's the difference between Compaq's XGA TFT screen type, and the Averatec's TFT, LCD, I don't get what they mean, any help. :)
