It was a day I knew would eventually come...sad though it was, it was time to move on. My trusty Mazda 3 has been traded in, and my new daily-driver is here:

2013 Mazda CX-5 Touring, with Moonroof/Bose package :).

Billed as the SUV for people who swore they'd never own one, it got my attention. I wanted something with AWD, but short of WRX or Evo, there aren't too many AWD offerings that are enjoyable to drive. I test drove a new Mazda 3 first for comparison. As expected, that car is fantastic to drive :). I hopped in the CX-5, and unlike any other SUV or crossover I've driven, I immediately felt at home. It's not a small vehicle, but it feels small behind the wheel. The steering is firm and provides good feedback, even on 65-profile all-season tires. Yes, it's not as tossable as a car, but it sure behaves like one! If the Mazda 3 is Michael Schumacher, the CX-5 is Ralf.

So yes, it's decent fun to drive. Beyond that, the interior is also a nice place to be. It's quiet, absorbs bumps nicely, and is relatively easy to see out of. Amenities in mine include tinted windows, moonroof, back-up camera, blind-spot monitoring, Bluetooth, and a sweet Bose audio package. It's pretty roomy, even in the back, and there is a lot of cargo space in the boot.

The only downside to this car is the horsepower. The 2.0 SKYACTIV engine makes 155-hp, which isn't a lot, but it does do okay for day-to-day driving. The shortfall is passing power, and it would surely feel sluggish at high-elevation. It will get great fuel-mileage, though. Personally, I'd sacrifice 2-3 mpg for another 15-20 horsepower, but Mazda didn't consult me during the design process :).

I think I'll enjoy this vehicle just fine :).

So, who is she? And when's she due?
Congrats on becoming a Daddy.
That's really the only reason you've bought an automatic SUV, right?!!! :p

Boooooo... not a manual. :D
No MTX with AWD, unfortunately. Again, Mazda needs to consult me when making these design decisions.

No, I bought an automatic SUV because I'm American, dammit! :p Nobody is carrying my child, so at least the Z is safe :D.
Cars > SUVs

Sir, you are headed in the wrong direction.
It's funny how the brain warps as one gets older. 16-year-old Kyle would be beating me senseless with a baseball bat right now. Of course, I've beefed up since high-school, so I could easily kick his ass. Uh oh, I think schizophrenia is taking me over...

That Z in the background is yours, right? If so I can respect your decision on getting that kind of car. If it isn't, well I wouldn't know what to say.

So how long until it's slammed on 19s? :dopey:

More seriously, nice choice. I've driven the 3 SkyActiv and came away pretty impressed with it; it's definitely going to be a bit "weak" in the CX-5 just because it's another 500lbs heavier but overall I'm pretty impressed with what Mazda's done with it.

Not a CX-5, but I do have some inspiration :D:

Lovely choice, Kyle! I'm surprised the 2013's are already on the lot. The model years start earlier and earlier each year! Pretty soon the model year-actual year difference will be like 4 years or something .

Yes, it is.

The ground clearance will come in handy on our annually-flooded roads around here, so no slamming on dubs :p. I'm impressed with what Mazda has done with this...it's more fun to drive and more planted than most "regular" cars are. Tour the rental-car circuit, and you'll know what I mean!

Nicely done, but you don't have to deal with snow in Houston

Nice!

Grats on the new ride and enjoy. Yeah- its not the "Ive made it" ride but its nice, new, and fits your life (I hope :p ).

Feeling the car is as much on you as it is on the car, enjoy, hit us with an update in 10k miles. :p

Jesus, those CX-5s haven't even hit our showrooms yet...I'm not entirely a fan of the looks to be honest but hey, it's probably all in the drive :D

Congrats on your new car! I hope you're enjoying it!
