Anyway, I found this:

Your friend's future car, complete with a California plate. Might want to get a chromier grille as well.

If he wanted to stand out, there's better ways of doing it than a hideous Jaguar.

Well most of the problem here is wanting a foreign car just to show off. First, owning a foreign car isn't really special anymore. Second, you're showing off status, not performance - the intended effect on passerby is "wow, that looks expensive", not "wow, that looks fast".
Pretty much summed up the silliness of this thread.

Buying a car to make yourself look good in with a budget of $15K is one of the stupidest things you could do. Half the cars in this thread aren't going to turn heads in California, & the ones that do are maintenance nightmares. Yeah, let's get ourselves into potential money pits only so when the car is actually running, I'll look like a cool mother trucker whilst I try to not think about what will break next. Tell your friend he needs a budget of $50K to dump on a car if his only goal is to look good to others.

Secondly, who lets someone else dictate what they can buy based on what makes you look good? If he's lending him money to buy a car, let him buy whatever satisfies his requirements, not the lender's idea of cool.

I didn't really wanna bring it up given how likely it is to cause a stir but, really - the best thing to buy to be seen as "Cool" in California is a Prius.

*ducks for cover*

Or cooler yet, a Leaf.

What does he plan to do with this car? Does he do his own maintenance? Does he plan to modify the car? What does his commute look like? Will this car need to transport objects and/or upwards of 2 people?

If you just give people a number they'll just tell you what they would buy. Whether their suggestions are any good depend on the slim chance your needs are similar.

He wants it for fun. He doesn't really need a-lot of space so a coupe could be nice, a four-door would work for him also. He has a work car.

I know right?

But hey you never know lol.
I wouldn't touch a Terminator under $20K. It's one of those cars every gear head has touched & modified for himself making the mint models worth paying the higher dollar.

Well you could get a standard SVT Cobra. Though those tend to suffer a similar fate.

Somewhat. I think the popularity of the Terminator name & just having one contributes to why they're so heavily used; it's a good car for those looking for big power. I think those looking for the previous models will already have a clearer picture of what they're getting into.

I mean really for big power you could go for any Mustang if you think about it but yeah I agree.

2007-2013 Volvo S80. Look no further.

I recently picked up an '07 3.2 and am loving it. You won't have a problem finding one for $15 grand. The car is definitely modern, as this same generation is still being produced today (with a facelift). It's Swedish, and definitely sleek.
