I will probably kick myself after I get this answered but I am struggling on forum abbreviations people use. And why do people put semicolons around them? Ok so these ones are frustrating me the most but if you have more please add them.
1- 👍
2 - AUP

And also I cannot find anywhere the forum rules. I thought this would have been emailed or PM to me on sign up...

Any help would be great.

Thanks

AUP - Acceptable Use Policy
👍 - Thumbs Up - It's : tup : (without the spaces). You'll see it in the smilies bit on the right hand side whenever you're making a post.

As for for the rules, they were there in plain sight when you signed up, and if you missed it, it's at the very bottom left corner of EVERY page you visit at GTP.

Do you mean colon rather than semicolon?

The first one (👍) is the forum code for the thumbs up emoticon/smilie. Many of the forum emoticons are bracketed by colons.

The second one is the abbreviation for the sites acceptable use policy (i.e. forum rules) which is linked at the bottom left of every GTP page. You also have to agree and accept the AUP as part of the sign up process although I don't think it is PM'd to you separately.

Hope this helps :D:tup:

EDIT: Tree'd :ouch:

p.s. Tree'd means someone has posted the the same information just before you and is derived from the Christmas tree lights at the start of a drag strip.

Hey thanks 👍

I am on an IPad app so maybe they aren't the same as posting on the actual website???
I had a couple more but I will look them up I think.
Thanks again

Well my next thread will be why are there no emoticons on the iPad app......

If you're seeing colons everywhere it sounds like you have smilies disabled.

But I just ran through my user CP and didn't see the option to do that...

edit: Ah, iPad. That would probably be it.

That's right, the iPad/iPhone app doesn't show the smilies in the same way. This should help.

Hahaha I am on the actual page now..... Man I feel like a complete douche. All of the emoticons are on the page. I thought it was weird that people would type these out all the time.
Thanks Neal and everyone else.

Wow compared to this, the iPad app is crapola. Not as much information, no psn usernames but at least it is quicker. Might have a look at iPad app problems in help desk. I didn't look in there because I didnt think it was a problem .....

As you noted, the iPad app is designed to be a quick-and-easy way to access the site from the device. The implementation details of the Forum Runner platform, on which the app is built, also limit the custom features and smilies which are available. If you don't like the app, you are welcome to use the site as normal in Safari.

Not complaining, now that I know the difference it will make my experience better.
