Any plans for going 3d? If so you might want to consider passive lcd's (LG) so you always take that step later.

No, I have no desire to move to 3D. IMO I consider that a bit of a gimmick and having tried a friends 3D setup, I don't think it's for me :)

While you are doing research, learn about input lag, the whole TV vs monitor thing is a hot debate on the Iracing forum, I use a single 42 inch tv, but over on the iracing forums the general train of thought is that there is a noticable impact on performance when using TV's instead of low input lag monitors.

Thanks 👍 I'm aware of lag issues and will be choosing a solution carefully. I have 42" plasmas now and they are a bit laggy so I need an improvement.

Set them to game mode, most upper echelon HD tv have this mode as do my projectors. No lag. Most higher end Samsung and others have this mode.

Check. 👍 Game Mode is a must...

I would stay away from plasma TV's, great picture but they run too hot. Could you imagine 3 of them 12-18 inches from your face? I run triple 55" LCD's and the lag is no different then my 24 inch Samsung's, at least none that I can discern.

The three 42" plasmas I have now heat the room up significantly so I know what you mean! :)

I think you're wrong man, Leo Bodnar I believe posted a thread on iracing about a device he had made that actually measured input lag through different inputs, he compared different TV's, and they are much higher depending on brand, etc.

He posted all the numbers and most TV's were just terrible. Here is a good example

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nu-5-vyDGUc&

I understand people are a little less caring about something like input lag on a forum dedicated to console gaming, but when it comes to Iracing, you learn a lot from those forums, also I just found Leo's post

LG 42LV355T 42" 39 msec
LG 47LV450U 47" 46 msec
LG 60PV250K 60" 59 msec

Existing projectors (see model number in Alex Porazinski post above): total lag is 28 msec

New in box Panasonic PT-AT5000E loan unit: total lag 49 msec. This is the lowest lag we can get out of it.

Also measured LCD display Samsung LS23CMZKFVA/EN (CM23WS) on the control desk: total lag 5 msec
Another LCD display HP 2210i (EM884A) in the office: 5 msec

So what you're saying Mayaman is that 127 MS of input lag (One of you no lag samsungs) against a monitor MEANT for gaming, not watching TV with an input lag of 5 MS.

So, I kind of don't think you've not really done your research on the high end samsungs having no input lag. If you're going to put thousands of dollars into a computer, and a sim racing rig, don't buy some big screen TV's when you'd be MUCH better off with 3x 24-27" monitors.

Again guys, I run a TV myself, but not forever because the fact is that whether you believe it or not, the numbers are right there for you all to see.

127 msec for the samsung D8000, that must be with the game mode set to off.

I'll check out the YouTube link later (it's blocked here at work). Thanks for that info Neixist 👍 Could you link to Leo's original thread/post if possible? Ta...

Just wondering if any sort of lag is really that noticable in "the real world"? I mean, we're talking milliseconds here! :)

Well what ever the results, my 240hz samsung when in Game mode has never ever given me any discernible lag. I may be "wrong" but its so negligible its like those guys that complain about the minute color gamut differences in-between monitors. Its nonsense for the most part. I've done test with Battlefield and MW3 and when game mode is off I can literally notice the difference not to mention my scores are horrible. Turn game mode on and presto, I'm a different player. So whether its fast enough for you I guess not. Its plenty fast for me.

I'm running on 720p DLP projectors now and when in game mode I don't notice any lag that would cause me to have any issues in a race.

Mainly arguing points for internet know it alls. :p

edit:another thing I'm noticing that is making me not want iracing more and more is that almost everyone I talk to about it says that its full of those "elite" guys that are always bagging on other games, equipment, etc. Thats not my scene man. I like to race for fun. Like I said, you may have elite "input lag" or perceived any way but I wouldn't go back to bezels if you paid me, literally. Ever.

And in closing, with my gigantic seamless projection image I could give two $hits if your input lag was .000000005 milliseconds to the 9th power. LOL

Your results are negligible because you're used to it Mayaman. Just like you're a different driver with game mode on, you might be a different driver if you were using a low input lag monitor that was intended for gaming.

Yeah they're definetely elitist over at Iracing, and it ticks me off to no end when they just come out and tell me I'm wrong, and there way is the only way, but usually when I cool off, I find they're right.

I mean we all know how sick your setup is Mayaman, I'm definetely not bagging on it, but your setup is not triple televisions on sale at best buy as some people have. It is purpose built, and I suspect if they had gaming projection monitors for computer, you would own those as well.

For some people like you, money is never an object. To the rest of us however it is, and we want the best possible product that our limited resources can have. All I want is for the OP to have all available resources when spending his money.

Yeah neither have I.

Niexist, yeah point taken I wasn't meaning to be an azzhole. But over the years I've been on "Internet" there's always that elitist group of what ever, gamers, car guys, etc that feel like they know what is best for you. I say to them.

Ignorance is bliss.

Difficult one this...

Personally I'm not one for this 1:1 scale of virtual cockpits trying to replicate the real experience accurately. Perhaps for the "sim" enthusiast this is important to extend any sense of realisim.

I'm more in the camp of bigger scale can be more engrossing, just like the cinema experience or IMAX. Of course you need a comfortable viewing distance and also in triple screens. Have to agree about borders, could live with them and they do not effect my enjoyment that much of 3x24" monitors. However not having them via projection and going back to the monitors, you then realise just how nicer triple display is without them.

I bought one of the best value and a high performance projectors currently available. Specifically designed for gaming.

http://www.projectorreviews.com/optoma/gt750/summary.php

DLP has virtually no "lag" compared to LCD projectors and it is possible to use this model in 120Hz 2D, Nvidia 3D Surround or in HDMI 1.4 3D. The drawback yes it has a native display of approx 720p resolution. 3D is good with a very bright lumens including long lamp life and short throw distance giving 2x the typical screen size /distance. Perhaps suitable for rear-screen projection options as well.

I think every option has it's own drawbacks and it is a personal thing what one user may prefer to another.

Maybe this is why I especially don't notice any lag, I'm using dlp projectors. Haven't gamed on LCD in ages. I have a Sammy 3D LCD led on my desk, but my main shooter tv is the 67" Sammy led dlp. Good point
