I've finally decided to actually build a PC but I need a bit of help. I'll list the parts I've already decided I'm purchasing, but I'd like some advice on other things I'll need.

Case: Corsair Obsidian Series 750D Airflow Edition
CPU: Intel I7 8700K
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti FTW3 Hybrid
Memory: Corsair Vengeance DDR4 4000Mhz (16gb for now, I'll probably upgrade to 32gb later)
Storage: WD Blue 1TB Internal SSD (Probably two of these)
CPU Cooling: Thermaltake Water 3.0 360mm Riing Fans

I'm trying to keep this a fairly high end computer that runs cool and lasts a long time, so I need some help picking out some other parts as well. Any recommendations for a good motherboard that will be compatible with my current parts? What about a power supply? I'm confused on what I need for wattage and whatnot.

Anything else I'm missing that I need to look at?

Thanks in advance for replies.

For both of these, throw your selections into pcpartpicker.com. It will alert you to incompatibilities and give you the expected wattage of the system.

Plan ahead a bit for any future gear you might add, most predominantly a second GPU.

Skip the (2) 1TB drives, use a 256Gb SSD for the OS and use a larger HDD for games, programs, porn, etc.

If you really want overkill, then a 1TB NVMe/m.2 SSD and a 1TB HDD is really all that is any use to you. The SSD for OS and apps, the HDD for files.

For reference, I have a pretty killer machine that will never heat up and my specs are as listed:

CoolerMaster MasterCase Pro 5
Intel Core i5-7600K @ 3.8GHz
CoolerMaster MasterLiquid 240 liquid cooler
Gigabyte Z270 ATX motherboard
16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 RAM
8GB nVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070
1TB HDD
1TB m.2 SSD
Corsair VS550 PSU

I'd recommend taking care to use good thermal compound and plentiful case fans if you're going to be putting your machine in an enclosure, as I have. In addition, a modular power supply will allow you to easily expand to a higher number of HDDs and putting another graphics card in SLI with the one that your machine started with, provided it's powerful enough.

Avoid wasting money on a ton of case fans if your machine's in the open and a 1000+ watt power supply, though. Diminishing returns and home computer system being the two main reasons.

WOW.... Mega deal state-sides...... EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 G2 $109.99 until 6PM PST TODAY. that's almost half price.

One thing I would suggest - go with a 250gb SSD for the operating system (such as a Samsung 850 EVO).

Depending on how much you have to store, I would also suggest getting a WD 8tb Easystore from Best Buy's website and shucking the drive. These have a WD 8tb Red drive in them which will run cooler, quieter and usually last longer than the WD Blue (which is just a basic HDD). Those run ~$170-180 when they are on sale.

Motherboards, I went with Gigabyte in my current build (the Gigabite AX370-Gaming 5) mostly because it was cheap. It's a decent board, better than my last Gigabyte which had all sorts of issues with audio drivers (especially on my Linux partition). If you can afford it, I would use nothing but Asus in the future. They're expensive, but they work.

I like the Intel i7-8700k. It's a good CPU for the price, especially if you are building a gaming rig (Intel is still slightly better than AMD in a gaming rig). I went with the AMD Ryzen 7 1800X in my current build cause I wanted the extra processing power.

Memory, I never use anything but G.Skill. Brand loyalty I guess, but I've never gotten a bad stick.
