help with my pc performance

It depends on how you want to play your games. If 1080p @ 60 fps for recent games good for you, then I'd suggest getting at least a GTX 660 or a 7870. Those two cards should be enough to keep you going for a bit, but it'll probably become outdated once new games come out and might struggle with some newer titles like BF4. Make sure that the case, PSU, and motherboard are capable of housing these cards too, since they are quite long & consume a bit of power. Good airflow is recommended too. An i7 is more than enough for gaming so don't worry about the CPU.

The two cards I mentioned will be enough to play BF4, but they'll struggle at Ultra. You might have to get at least a 670 or a 7970. However you can't make predictions if it's "future-proof", since games like The Crew has not come out yet. You can also SLI/Crossfire, but with it comes more power, heat, and some incompatibilities.

With the recommended cards being the GTX660 or the HD7870, I'd be surprised if you couldn't play on Ultra, provided the rest of your machine is capable.

That said, if you're going to buy a new GPU, there's no way I buy the minimum recommended as the next game that comes out will no doubt need more horsepower. I'd be looking at a minimum of a GTX770 or equivalent.
